A remarkable rescue at the foot of the Columbia River in Oregon led to a man's rescue and police not knowing it was a man Astoria police had been searching for.

Still confused on why police were looking for him, over placing a dead fish on a porch?? With no context (if there is any to be had) this is one befuddling story. Awesome rescue absolutely, without doubt yet the lead up to this rescue...?? I feel this man def has some mental issues and/or a penchant for mischief.

I know it is the Coast Guards job to save people in these situations. But, it always bugs me how they have to put their lives on the line because of the stupidity of others. And why should this young man who is doing something productive with his life have to risk it to save someone who is nothing but another criminal doing nothing of value with his life.

They should have let him go down with the stolen boat. The only plus to the rescue was the owner now has video of his stolen boat for the insurance claim. Otherwise, a waste of USCG resources. Imagine the cost to US and Canadian taxpayers, including free room and board in jail.
