A man was rescued after he was found clinging to a cooler 30 miles from Florida's west coast after Hurricane Milton.

“This man survived in a nightmare scenario for even the most experienced mariner," said Lt. Cmdr. Dana Grady, Sector St. Petersburg's command center chief. "To understand the severity of the hurricane conditions, we estimate he experienced approximately 75-90 mph winds, 20-25 foot seas, for an extended period of time to include overnight."

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) said the man rescued is the captain of a fishing boat, and was first rescued with his crew member on Monday. The Coast Guard said their boat became disabled around 20 miles off St. John's Pass at around 12:40 p.m. before Milton made landfall.
