In Focus: Arley Hall & Gardens | White Cube

White Cube’s first outdoor sculpture exhibition in the historic grounds of Arley Hall & Gardens is discussed by curator Susanna Greeves.

The exhibition situates more than 20 works by international contemporary artists in amongst the grounds and surrounding parkland. Whilst some respond to the traditional features of the English country house, others punctuate the framed vistas of the formal gardens.

Surmounting Arley’s 17th-century garden walls, Antony Gormley’s ‘DOMAIN’ sculptures flicker from dark to silver against the fluctuating backdrop of the sky, meanwhile Isamu Noguchi’s ‘Play Sculpture’ (1965–80) invites visitors to touch and climb.
