Many people wonder, "did Beethoven and Mozart ever meet"? Perhaps this short will answer that question

Forbes, Elliot. “The Years 1787 to 1788.” Thayer's Life of Beethoven, vol. 1, Princeton University Press, Princeton, 1967, pp. 87

Swafford, Jan. “A Journey and a Death.” Beethoven: Anguish and Triumph: A Biography, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Boston, 2015, pp. 89–92.

This actually never happened, it has been invented by early Beethoven biographes to promote the image of Beethoven's life being full of this kind of signs and stuff, so they could become famous as Beethoven's biographe (most famous exemple being Schindler, who even falsified Beethoven's conversation diary that he used to use to dialogue when he was deaf)

The real story is that Beethoven did go to Vienna as a child, where he was supposed to show his talent to famous people including Mozart. But around that time Mozart's father had recently died, meaning that he still was in grief and wasn't in the mood of social meetings. So at the end of the day, they couldn't meet.

People fighting over who is better, Mozart or Beethoven. To me, it's a tie, both were great for their time and their music transcends time because even to this day it is beautiful.

A genius can recognize genius without difficulty. And rather than jealousy he tries his utmost to learn as much as he can from them. Peace to two of the most astoundingly creative humans we've been blessed with. 🖖🖖❤️

Mozart: Are you hearing this?

Beethoven: What?

Would’ve loved both musicians/composers to have done a duet together. Imagine the collaboration. Two of the greatest composers in history, creating a piece together.

Quote commonly attributed to Bach on a similar case "Learning an instrument is easy. All that you need to do is hit the right notes at the right time."

I forgot when beethoven lost his hearing or how he hears people but in my head I just imagine mozart sticking his mouth to beethoven's ear and speaks very loudly.

even if it's not real. I still think they both made some of the best music of all time

They didn’t meet but beethoven DID hear him play. He said he had a choppy technique, which I think makes total sense considering beethoven was a master of the more developed piano while mozart was probably accustomed to earlier versions of the fortepiano. (I’m no historian but this is what I learned from an amazing biography by Jan Swafford)

The version I've read had Mozart say something to the effect:
"Watch this young man, someday he will make great noise."

I read somewhere that when Beethoven was 17, he went to Vienna to visit Mozart whom was in a very bad health condition and wasn't in a state to receive visitors. Though, when Beethoven showed off his talent, Mozart rose from his bed and (said something to Salieri? Don't remember the man) something along the lines as: “Keep a close eye on this kid”, and then agreed to take Beethoven as his pupil.

Unfortunately, Beethoven's father reported that his mother became severely ill via a letter. Beethoven had a choice between going back to his homeland, or staying and learning from Mozart. He decided to return back home to check up on his mother, and when he returned to Vienna a couple of years later, Mozart was already deceased.

Being a harsh critic is what makes them better

Composers are the harshest critics, even today.

There is a chance that Mozart and Beethoven actually met. The story is similar to this however Mozart was close to death and Beethoven was young. We don’t know if Beethoven actually talked to Mozart but they were both alive at one point in the same town so there is chance they caught a glimpse of each other.

Why everybody here hates on Mozart? Has anyone listened and studied his music actually, You all will be surprised to actually know how perfect, difficult and beautiful his work was

I haven't heard many nicknames for famous classical composers, but I don't think I'll ever hear a better one than "Young 'Hov" for Beethoven

Comparing Mozart and Beethoven is like comparing a Dog to A Cat. Their styles of music are VERY different from one another

It just depends on the person listening to the music, on my part I like Beethoven more because of his brutal, emotional and explosive nature
