Sub- Topic:Traditional mumu in Papua New Guinea

Hello everyone!

I'm Mike KOL. Today I want to tell you about a special tradition from Papua New Guinea called the mumu. Which is cook large amount of foods in less time to feed hundreds.

In Papua New Guinea the mumu is a big deal, it's not just about cooking food, it's about being together as a community and celebrating our culture.

Imagine an earth oven that is filled with hot stones. Then, we put the banana leaves on top and add foods like bananas, sweet potatoes, taro, cassava, and yam at the base of the mumu . After that, we layer the greens and add the meats and fish on top with the leftover vegetables. We use our favorite spices to make it taste delicious. Then, we cover everything with more banana leave and dirt. This keeps the heat in, and food cooks slowly in the earth oven. It smells amazing.

After around 2-3 hours, we ask everyone to get together to share the food. "Just imagine a hundred people being feed from the single earth oven". That's why PNG is unique in traditional cooking practices. But the best part of the mumu is being with the family and friends. We laugh, tell stories and enjoy each others company. We say that it's a time to be happy and grateful for what we have as Papua New Guineans.

In the world where things can be busy and stressful, the traditionalmumu in Papua New Guinea reminds us to slow down and appreciate the simple things- like good food and good company.

So next time you come around to Papua New Guinea and gather with loved ones.Think about the traditional styles of cooking food in the earth oven. Even if you do not enjoy being together and celebrating our culture. Find out how hundreds of people feed from a single earth oven and how food is cooked in the earth oven and how unique is Papua New Guinea.
Thanks for watching.
