Bike Restoration: Motobecane Mirage, Part 1

First look at a recently acquired 1974 Motobecane Mirage. This video introduces the bike as it is today; future videos will go through the process of basic mechanical and cosmetic restoration. The goal will be a functional and visually appealing bicycle, but not a "show quality" result.

Old steel bikes are great projects. Those cotter pins always kick my butt though.

I own this exact bicycle within a year or so and it did not come with Suntour derailleur, it was a Simplex. I bought the bike new so I'm pretty sure that the Suntour is a replacement as the wheels on the Simplex were plastic and degraded fairly quickly. It also looks like the tires are glue-on and my are clinchers. They might have had two different versions of this bike or maybe a former owner upgraded it along the way, I don't know. My bike is still operational and has been ridden in the last year. Nice bike.
