I would love a follow up to this for the top 5 intermediate and top 5 advanced certs. Thanks for this one Gerry!

Thank you for this. I'm kind of turned off by certifications, but I plan on getting them eventually. Idk I've worked with many people who don't have certs but have the knowledge and "don't need them"..

I was offered my current job as a Defense Contractor (here in Charleston!) contingent on my obtaining a Sec+ (which they paid for!) and a few other things. The CEO of the company told me that he didn't care about my having it or not, but the government people required it.

What an excellent and thorough outline presentation of these five certs! I like the compare and contrast, and then the clarification you provide when it comes to earning one and then trying to land that first role at least the expectations. Keep rocking with your presentations Dr. Auger, you're one of kind, and I always - always learn something new from you! Joe

So, I have no real formal IT education. I just dabbled here and there with hardware back when I was a kid, configured some stuff, fixed printers etc. That was decades ago in highschool! lol I pursued other stuff and recently decided to go back to IT.

Last year I got to play around with some tools just for amusement like John the Ripper, Beef, metasploit, did some sql injection, random stuff. I didn't go deep into it so I'm trying to figure out where to start to really dig in and get some formal education. Any suggestions? Thanks for your response!

Right now I'm at DSU studying Cyber Operations. I essentially only have the major specific courses left to do (all those related to cybersecurity).

For me, what I'm asking myself right now is besides my schooling, what other things should I be focusing on or doing to prepare myself for a career so I can get started in the cybersecurity field ASAP.

Some have recommended doing the A+ so I could potentially get a help-desk job and transition into a cybersecurity role once I graduate. Potentially makes sense, but then I am worried I can't devote my time to school and CompTIA and to a job all at the same time. Further, I'm not sure what good CompTIA resources are out there (I know about Messer, Mike Meyers, Dion Training, and I don't see them as being that good of resources).

I'm stressing out because I know I should be doing something else, but I truly don't know what else to focus on and do.

Since I am based out of Charleston, you may have some keen insight into my problem.

I am unable to transition to a cyber security role. I have a BS/MS in Cybersecurity & Information Assurance, CISSP, CCSP, SSCP, CEH, CCNP enterprise, CCNP security, CySA+, Pentest+, Project+, itilv4, and so on. I've been working in IT since 2011 moving from support to sys admin 1 & 2 to manager.

What I've found is, 90% of the roles in SC require an active clearance and apparently remote positions are impossible to get. Where could I possibly go from here? I considered grabbing the CGRC, CISM, and/or the CISA/CRISC as my goal is to move into risk management or compliance. However, it seems like it would just be more of the same.

Do you have any advice?

Hello. I have experience in python, scala, pyspark, powershell, and bash to do data science work. Is it possible to get an entry level position in cybersecurity if I do what's said in the video? I have no IT experience. How much time do you think it'd take to learn ITF+ and Network+ concepts and a comptia security+ certificate? Thanks!

I have two questions, I have no IT experience at all, so what’s the
3 most important certs to focus on getting? And do I need them to begin my journey in GRC ?

So the way I’m understanding this is understand the knowledge behind A+ and Network+ but certificate wise Security+ would be worth getting but it’s more so a ✅ for HR.
