Why I Don't Use Microfiber Towels on my Curls | #shorts

What's your favorite type of hair towel for your curls? I find that traditional "microfiber" material still leads to frizz. Granted, it's way better than using a traditional bath towel on your curls, but there are even better options.

I prefer flat-weave cotton that is smooth on the surface. When you look closely, there aren't any tiny fibers sticking up that can cling to hair.

Here are some options:
🔹 @hairrepear3587 towels - I've used these for years!
- Similar material to a T-shirt
- Absorbent, but not too much, so great for wrapping prior to damp styling
- Large or small size depending on your hair length
- Loop to hold it in place

🔹 @CurlsmithOfficial
- Soft & smooth material, almost spongy feeling
- Highly absorbent, good for those who air dry and plop
- Medium/large size

🔹 Plain 'ol cotton T-shirt
If you don't want to buy a specific hair towel, you can always just use an old T-shirt. These are not always as absorbent as a hair towel, but they totally do the job. Using a long-sleeve may be best for plopping compared to a short-sleeve which can be hard to tie.

What is your favorite towel? Let me know below!

I mostly use an old T shirt! Works great with no frizz!

Hydrophilic towels also known as baby mousseline, these are thin flat cotton weaves made to absorb water fast ( hydro = water, philic = attracting).

My hair strands are ultra fine, high density 2c/3a. Every towel would leave my hair frizzy and dry, squeezing will disrupt my curl pattern- you can see the shape of my hands and where I squeezed when it's dry 😅.

Your skin is thinner before puberty, especially when you are still a baby. Regular towels will suck the moisture right out of their skin, leaving the baby with dry irritated skin. Hydrophilic towels were created to fix that issue.

I was thinking about that and realized it is the same issue I have with my hair. Tried a hydrophilic towel a couple months back, it works like a charm!

I highly recommend trying it if a regular towel and flat woven microfiber towels are too drying on your hair too. They aren't the cheapest towels around, but the construction is solid- they will look brand new for many years.

I agree. I prefer to use a T-shirt. You are so pretty, Gena Marie, and I love your curls.

I have said exactly the same thing about microfiber towels! It's the same material that microfiber cleaning cloths are made from that are designed to snag dust, lint, dirt, and debris. Personally, I don't think they are great for curly/wavy hair, especially if your hair is fine, like mine is. Oh, and my favorite hair towels are ones that I cut from fabric I got at the fabric store. They are polyester, but they are super duper soft, flat, and absorbent! I get absolutely no frizz from this fabric!

Im so glad someone brought this up. I thought it was just me getting frizzy when I used those towels. I stick to old cotton tees.

My trick with the microfiber towel is to put satin scarf over it and scrunch upwards

I use old, many times washed t-shirts. I live close to a great little thrift store, and all their "stuff" is donated. They wash all clothing and towels, etc, before they put them out for sale, and I can gather up any number of t-shirts for my stash for a couple of bucks each.

The Perfect Haircare towel is smooth as silk. Smoother than a T-shirt but It is also highly absorbent...If I use it, i spray it damp. I have lower Porosity hair, and find that microplopping can remove a lot of product, so much that it isn't just the 'extra', but when i do MP, it will really shrink my curls, which i love, but i have to get some hold on it after. If you or anyone has tips? I have been mixing hard hold gel in with a foam, and it spreads through really easily with glazing and scrunching...

Idk the name of the towel I'm using but it is good size and pink like breast cancer month pink and works amazing for me cuz I also have very fine hair. I bought a few microfiber ones and the results were disastrous. They left my hair in with so much frizz my hair looked dry. Thank you for confirming this, I won't buy another microfiber towel ever again.

I tried to go fancy first, but plopping only ever worked for me after I started using one of my boyfriend's old T-shirts (they're about double the size of mine).
My hair retains water like no other I've seen. My hairdresser, who only does curls, was close to tears because she had to blow-dry my hair for more than half an hour and it seemingly didn't get any drier.
However, T-shirt fabric is so light that all moisture can escape, meaning that if I wear it over night I don't have to do any styling in the morning. It is definitely life-changing.

I have a Danish Endurance microfibre towel - a smooth texture. Size large (60 x 120 cm) is perfect for plopping. I need a 2nd one so based on other people’s comments I may go for the perfect hair care towel OR Curlsmith. Xx

I use old school tri-fold cotton diapers to squeeze out the water & cotton flannel-like swaddle blankets for plopping & putting up for a bit.

I have the Diva Curl microfiber, and I did not like it either. I have been looking for a new towel. I also tried Pattern not great. It just kind of sucks because I spent like $40 on two towels that don't work
