I'd vote Švejkist in a heartbeat, better political program than 90% of what we have now.

Jokes aside Gentlemen, but in my humble opinion the AH Empire made much more sense than the present day Eurokolchoz. The system, initially unbearable, was however evolving towards a more and more humane multi-national arragement, which shielded us from the German and Russian hegemons. I am from Krakow, PL (fmr. Province of Galicia), where in many places portraits of Kaiser Franz Josef are still hanging. Some over 50 yrs ago I scavenged from the family memorabilia collection a wonderful bronze equestrian statue 'Kaiser Franz Josef I bei Fruhjahrsparade Wien 1898', which gracefully decorates my home-office.

Regarding the song 'Hercegovina', while participating in a Scouting camp during my high school days (perhaps ~1972), someone brought this song with some Slavic lyrics, not Czech, somewhat resembling Croatian (?). We quickly all learned it and it became an absolute hit for our entire Krakow Scout Troop #7 for years to come. The singing protocol involved getting up to 'attention' and saluting each time Pan Cesar was mentioned. As thorough familiarity with 'Švejkology' was then common, we were aware that 'Hercegovina' was featured in the 1957 film. I remember that the later stanzas contained a heavily anti-Islamic language, going like (I am quoting from distant memory):
... ove Turkinje
su kao svinje,
ih Pan Cesar
nerad videt' v Hercegovine
During my later 'career' I met quite a few nice and charming Turkish ladies but somehow this stanza was ringing in my head, spoiling everything each time I attempted even a conversation (LOL).

Krásné dílo, nicméně nemělo by na té první mapě být celé Těšínsko?

Svejk returning from the war and becoming a local politician advocating for a return of the monarchy would actually be a very wholesome ending for a Svejk film. One could even make a sequel about an older Svejk experiencing the German annexation of Czechoslovakia and later Soviet occupation

Edit: bertold Brecht made a story about this, called „Svejk in the Second World War“
