How To Find Diamonds in Minecraft 1.18! (New BEST Method)

In today's video I will show you all how to find Diamonds in the New Minecraft 1.18 Caves and Cliffs Update Part II. The new update means the old mining methods that worked in Minecraft 1.17 no longer work in this new version of Minecraft. I will show you all the new Best Y-Level to Mine at in order to find Diamonds, as well as other secret tips and tricks you can use to find the most diamonds possible!

How To Perform Method #1 (150-200 Diamonds pr/hr) -

In order to perform this Mining method, you’ll need any pickaxe, a source of food, and torches are optional. Simply dig yourself down to Y-Level -58, I prefer digging a 2 block wide hole down so that way I can’t fall into any big caves or lava pits. Once you've got yourself down to Y -58, simply mine a 2 block tall mine as far as you’d like to go. Diamonds do spawn a bit less often than in previous versions, so if you don’t find diamonds within the first few minutes, don’t get discouraged! I like to dig in 1 straight continuous line so that way I can find my way back home with ease.

How To Perform Method #2 (250+ Diamonds pr/hr) -

in order to perform this method you’ll need a pickaxe, shovel, bucket of water, and food. Dig yourself down to Y -59. Once there, dig out 5 blocks in front of you at eye level. Next, get your water bucket in your hand, if you’re on java it helps to put it in your off hand. Place the bucket of water on the block immediately in front of you. You’ll then want to walk as far forward as possible, and then make your character sprint so that you’ll enter the swim animation making it possible for you to swim into the 5 block gap you dug. This takes some practice, but it is possible on both Java and Bedrock, as I have used this method plenty on each platform. Once in the gap, you want to dig in 1 straight line as far as you’d like.

The Math Proof for Mining Method #2:

In the first method, the classic strip mine method, for each block that you mine you revealing 4 new blocks that could be Diamond Ore. This is because you have to mine 2 blocks to move forward 1 block, which makes it slightly less efficient. In the second method, for each additional block that you mine you reveal 5 new blocks that could be Diamond Ore. This means for every block you mine, you're giving yourself an extra 25% chance to find a Diamond Ore. Overtime this adds up big time, which is why I prefer Method #2 over Method #1, but both are good.

I do want to clarify, that these methods will work on 1.17 works that you transfer over to 1.18. The new update is extending all worlds down to Y -64, so if you play an old world on 1.18 it will generate new blocks all the way down to Y -64. This means you won't have to worry about finding other methods or information, as all of this will still apply to new and old worlds!

First, you shouldn't use fortune for these tests. Use silk touch then you can still fortune them later. Also in the second method you weren't getting the other ores so had more time for diamonds. Lastly the big caves while having fewer due to the air exposure still have plenty and there is no time spent breaking blocks to find them. Spend 30 minutes caving and compare.

Answer at 3:02. This video reminded me why I don't like YouTube that much.

The fastest way I’ve personally found diamonds, and even ancient debris, is mining out a 5x1 hole. It may seem a less-than-effective way to mine, but you’re literally leaving no stone unturned. If you mine a 5x1 hole, spread apart every 2 blocks, you’ll find a crap ton of this stuff. I found like 35 ancient debris and two stacks of diamond in an hour.

Thank you for putting together this video, and providing some information. Though looks a bit sketchy mate.. many a times you seem to randomly veer off of mining target and within 1/2 blocks uncover diamonds.. Do appreciate the help and information with the latest update to changes in diamonds and helpful methods for farming, though feels kinda like you're using xray for demonstrations and numbers for 30 min farming tests; which doesn't naturally provide realistic data for farming output & diamond percentage.

Also, once anyone knows, I'm curious how the rules about clay patches in swamps might have changed.

I think I will have to make different levels to mine for different ores

I look at the chart and I might have the levels, which can be changed but for now I feel like these are the best levels

Diamonds y level: -58 (as you said)
Iron and copper y level: 26
Gold y level: -16
Coal y level: above ground or 48-40

Redstone and Lapis are basically the same for diamonds so really no need, emeralds looks like their mostly above ground in mountains so that's just gambling. If you think there are better y levels post in the comments. :D

This guy has the most annoying voice I've ever heard, I actually had to turn subtitles on and mute it. He should seriously consider paying a voice actor from now on.

I definitely think the second method seems like the better cuz it illiminates the risk of mobs spawning, just gotta remember to bring ladders to get back up again xD but I think what sucks most about the new levels and the way the world generates is that is almost impossible to dig down without digging into a huge cave or ravine and so annoying the you're mining :/

tip: you can also use trap doors to enter the 1 block tunnel.
