Custom Wipe Transition using Alpha Channels - After Effects Tutorial

Wipe on, wipe off young grasshopper! Sometimes the linear wipe isn't good enough. You want to use the alpha channel to make some cool stuff? It starts here. Radial wipe? You can do it! Heart wipe? You can do it! Butt wipe? You're on your own, get out of here.

I'm just selecting and scaling the one mask. Click on it in the layer twirl down, and then click and drag on the bounding box to scale it out. I'm guessing it's a matte of selection. You could just select the points on one end and move them. Have you tried that?

Invisible cut? Like when the cut is masked by a person or object moving across frame in the other tutorial in this series? I think it's a fine thing to do so long as it fits stylistically with the narrative of the piece?

Thanks for the reply! Later on I realized that its not animating the shape that I needed to do, but to only animate the mask, and keep the shape in the same position. Thanks for the informative tutorials!

Are you sure CS3 doesn't have track mattes? I remember using version 6.5 and they were in there. it should say TrkMatte on the layer.

You have have strange defaults on, perhaps jst select the points you want to move and move those.

How do I make a wipe like this without being a transition? I mean if I wanna wipe on a effect this way? And to not go from one clip to another, but make the effect come in with a wipe. If you know what I mean

At 2:57, when you expand one edge of the mask out you also expand the shape. All I can seem to do is only scale the whole size of the shape and not only extend the one edge.

well do you want to use masks or linear wipes? Why not just use some linear wipe effects? Or if you watn to use masks use masks and animate the mask paths. It's absolutely possible to use masks to add, remove, intersect, etc etc put one on and see how it looks.
