God, I have this album as well. Props to this girl, from a fellow girl, who played guitar and listened to all the same bands in the 80s as a kid. (Plays)

I saw them at a basement party in Allston, MA in the summer of '91. I can still remember them and what the feeling this band (and others) playing new music live was like. Nirvana''s"Smells Like Teen Spirit" was just another single on college radio. There was something in the air you could feel and hear that whole summer. Nirvana would be huge by Christmas. (p.s. the shot at 5:52 is definitely at The Middle East (upstairs) in Cambridge, MA).

Awesome! Seana is one of my most favorite people on the planet. I'm very proud and grateful to have worked with her on a lot of her most recent recording projects. I can't overstate how talented she is and how great of a person she is. Great interview. Well-deserved.

I always loved 'Two Girls Kissing' and 'Sunn', the latter being a real standout for me. I also recall having 'Scherzo Allegro' as a ringtone at one point! This channel is fantastic, thanks for all the great content.

I was in my early 20s that first EP came out and used to see them in Boston constantly. I’m sure I’m in the audience of some of these. I remember a really weird show soon after Seanna left and they were having an argument on stage. It was super confusing and uncomfortable.

Their music meant so much to me. Especially “Upstairs” from What to do about them.

.Swirlies, a fun band to see live, saw them twice, once at the Uptown Bar in Minneapolis, and at Coffman Union on the U of MN campus. I first heard about them on 770 Radio K in the twin cities.. college radio! the term shoegaze comes from players looking at their feet, to use their various effects pedals correctly... the late 80's and 90's, was such a great time in music.. Hundreds of great albums came out..

BTAB remains one of my favorite shoegaze albums — I played the hell out of it in the mid 90s and still return to it. Swirlies really had a unique sound; I think they broadened the sound of shoegaze as much as any of the more famous bands did.

Great interview, I've been into the swirlies going back to some of their first shows. It was super fun watching them grow as a band. Thanks for this. I think I'll go listen to "House of Pancakes" now (it's one of my favorite songs as well)

9:34 I wish you would have also asked Seana about her thoughts on the term "chimp rock."

Saw them just tonight in East Hempstead in MASS. She’s just as cute to see, the sound guy needed to turn her vocals up but they sounded the same

I love Swirlies. It's weird for me, years ago I was in hospital and the only cassette I had was What To Do About Them. I listened to it so much and even now... I'm don't like it too much, it brings back dark memories. I love listening to Yes Girls and Seana's song Collide. Beautiful, amazing music, I'm one light flashing ❤

Seana *did* briefly re-unite with the Swirlies for a 2 week tour in 2015. I saw the band's show in Boston. Judging that gig, I don't think Seana and the rest of the band played well together anymore and it looked like it was really hard for Seana. They're all really great people; they just no longer seemed to mesh.
