Please enjoy our version of Dougie McLean's "Caledonia".

CALEDONIA

I don't know if you can see
The changes that have come over me
In these last few days I've been afraid
That I might drift away
I've been telling old stories, singing songs
That make me think about where I've come from
That's the reason why I seem
So far away today

[Chorus:]
Let me tell you that I love you
That I think about you all the time
Caledonia, you're calling me, now I'm going home
But if I should become a stranger
Know that it would make me more than sad
Caledonia's been everything I've ever had

Now I have moved and I've kept on moving
Proved the points that I needed proving
Lost the friends that I needed losing
Found others on the way
I have kissed the fellas and left them crying
Stolen dreams, yes, there's no denying
I have traveled hard, sometimes with conscience flying
Somewhere with the wind

[Chorus]

Now I'm sitting here before the fire
The empty room, the forest choir
The flames have cooled, don't get any higher
They've withered, now they've gone
But I'm steady thinking, my way is clear
And I know what I will do tomorrow
When hands have shaken, the kisses float
Then I will disappear

[Chorus]

Caledonia's been everything I've ever had
Caledonia's been everything I've ever had
Caledonia's been everything I've ever had

Led by their fearless front-woman Derina Harvey, this five-piece Celtic-rock group offers a fresh take on traditional tunes and intersperse that offering with their own original jigs and reels. Their infectious rhythmic undertow is layered with rock guitar, dizzying fiddle motifs, and topped by Derina’s powerful voice. These transplanted east-coasters have earned a reputation with their high-energy live show, leaving many an audience out-of-breath and hollering from the dance floor!

The band has proven to be a crowd-pleaser wherever they go. Though the band is based in Alberta, 2015 has seen the group travel across the country, with three trips to Newfoundland to their credit where they have entertained crowds at theatres, festivals, and pubs. They have been featured twice on the main stage of George Street Festival in St. John's, once opening for NL favourites Shanneyganock. Most recently, they have shared the stage with other east-coast favourites such as Jimmy Rankin, The Irish Descendents, Pogey, and even some rock acts including The Trews, Kim Mitchell, and Trooper.

The band continues to build on a growing fan base by promoting their self-titled debut album (released in 2013). The record has garnered radio airplay in multiple regions in Canada (CKUA in Edmonton; K-Rock and Radio Newfoundland in St. John's, NL; CBC, Canada-wide). Their second album entitled "Rove and Go" (released May, 2016) has already gotten airplay on over 30 community and college radio stations across Canada.

Derina: I heard your rendition of Caledonia for the first time tonight travelling home through Edmonton on CKUA Celtic show, I am a Scot who lives permanently in Canada, your vocals put life back into this song, the important thing that you managed to capture is that your voice brought emotion and in this lyrics of Dougie Macleans famous song you made me think of Scotland and I don't do that not unless there is something special behind it. This is a beautiful example of folk music, thankyou

The time signature change gives this a huge gut-punch of feelings, it's like hearing it for the first time again. In tears within a verse.

A beaufiful song. Seems like someone starts cutting onions in the room every time I listen to it.

This is an absolutely beautiful song, and your beautiful voice and band do it all the justice that it deserves. Amazing.

Surfing on YouTube and found these shorts of your version of "The Last Shanty" with the girl's outfit changing to the music. Found out who did the song and now I am here. Glad I made the trip. The band is a talent that is vastly underrated and more people need to hear your music. Songs with messages and songs for fun. All without vulgarity. We need more of both! Your voice gives these songs a "kick" that other artists cannot duplicate. A new fan from the US.

Brilliantly done. I've just been working with your father, and since I'm Scottish he made sure to tell me to look this up, and glad I did. You did a great job of the green fields of france aswell.
