Learning from Ukraine: Taiwan trains military reservists to fight possible Chinese invasion

Hundreds of Taiwanese military reservists carried out training exercises on Monday after the island's president called for "unity" as the Ukraine war rattles nerves over the threat of invasion from China. Taiwan last year stepped up its training regime for reservists as tensions rise with Beijing, which sees the self-ruled island as part of its territory to be seized one day, by force if necessary. About 400 personnel took part in target practice Monday in a programme designed to boost their combat readiness. Their training kicked off earlier this month and simulates defending a beach near the capital Taipei. Watch the video for more.

Taiwan should also make sure the reservist knows how to use ATGMs, MANPADS and the brightest are also taught to use more sophisticated SAM systems so that they have trained personnel in case the A team is lost. Training of specialty units like Anti-ship systems is also critical. The more reservist is trained the better. Learning from Ukraine's experiences both good and bad is also a good idea. Drone operators seems to be another crucial element as well as cyber defense/offense.

Taiwan needs to focus on it's Navy as well to form a strong deterrence. Submarines could play a very key role during any Chinese-Taiwan conflict because any invasion by China on Taiwan would involve it's Marine forces landing on Taiwanese soil via large Amphibious Warships & Helicopter Carriers which can carry Tanks & IFVs apart from Personnel.

So to create a formidable deterrence, it's important for Taiwan to focus on either procuring more Submarines to replace it's aging fleet of 2 subs or building those Conventional Submarines in house with some help from countries like US & Japan who might be more than willing to help due to their own strategic interests.
