About Spectre Sound Studios:
I'm Glenn Fricker, engineer here at Spectre Sound Studios. I love making records, and after doing it for sixteen years, I want to pass on what I've learned. On my channel you can find tutorials on how to record guitar, bass, real drums and vocals. There's reviews and demos of tube amps, amp sims, drums, mics, preamps, outboard gear, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, and plugin effects.
We've covered Moon on the Water, played Bias FX, given you the absolute best in Stupid Musician Texts, ranted & raved about bass guitar, and this channel is where The Eagle has Landed.
Everything you've wanted to learn about recording Hard Rock & Heavy Metal can be found right here on this channel!

I also respond to your comments & questions: The best make it into the SMG Viewer's Comments series of videos. Loads of fun, lots of laughs.

But does it sound as heavy as a Line 6 Spider boosted with a metal zone and three Kirk Hammett signature Wah pedals?

You do realize that this is the first time i think i preferred the DI over mics...WOW..So impressed that i bought one! Ty Glen, ive never been happier with an amp in my 20 years of playing!

That knob joke... i laughed way too hard at this. I was once in a band called "the knobs" becausewe were a bunch of "goobers." "The knobs" was funny because nobody was allowed to play with us. Our lead singer was on crystal meth most of the time so we changed our name to "tweak n the knobs" The last show we ever played was all covers at a nursing home and somewhere inbetween our 7th or 8th song an old lady died. A week later our singer goes to jail, then prison for... you guessed it... meth, and the band broke up. I tell ya...we were gonna go places

Boss/Roland have done really well with their amp lines recently.
Although the Waza Craft amp is way overpriced, it still sound and feels great. The Blues Cube series is also rather impressive...first "warm" solid state tone I've played.

GLENN THE DEMO SONG YOU USED IN THIS IS KICK ASS! You are a pretty kick ass rhythm player! I was banging my head HARD at the riff at 4:00!

I just bought the 50 watt combo because I wanted a small amp for traveling. I've actually been playing it more than my JCM2000 half stack because it sounds so damn good.

My friend actually just suggested this amp for me, just to play with in my apartment (I'm not a serious musician; don't play in a band or nothing). I'm pleasantly surprised with it.

I have this amp, and the great thing is how easy it is to use compared with a lot of other modelling gear.  The controls are very simple and well laid out - a refreshing change from many others where you have to navigate through lots of menus to do anything.

The live direct setting I thought sounded better than the mic version. I'm buying a Katana Mini today for my bedroom.

The Crunch channel is the best feature of this amp, and you managed to make it sound terrible.
Nice work.

Boss really hit a home run with the Katana series amps. The 100 watt head with a 4x12 makes a killer gigging setup that won't kill your bank account. Great job Glenn. Keep up the good work.

I played the Katana Artist 100 and it sounded great! More expensive but the speaker was a major upgrade

After listening to a lot of demos and getting to try one out at my local store, I really think that for the price, you can't beat this thing. It sounds good, it's giggable, it's light, and it's inexpensive.

I've never played through a 100watt head/4x12 cab untill this year. I went with the EVH 5150 Iconic 4x12 cab and the Boss Katana MK2 Artist 100watt head...WOW. I've also got into my first house late 2020, now that I have jam space in the basement AND an amp that loud enough to be heard over acoustic drums....I'm ready to ROCK!

has Glenn been playing a lot? His playing is sounding much tighter and warms my heart.

I fell in love with the demo track in the direct/mic'd section. Badass.

I gotta say I love mine. Got the 100 combo and have no problems with the speaker/cabinet. Plenty of headroom. I also got the footswitch and two expression pedals - one for wah and one for volume. The fact that the footswitch has connections for two expression pedals is a huge plus, and I love the ease of use it provides.

While I still prefer just plugging my pedalboard into my Marshall DSL40C, the Katana 100 combo is a great, versatile amp - especially for the price. Far better than the other modeling amps I've tried, since it not only sounds a lot better but also takes away the "option paralysis" the others bring to the table with their complicated control schemes. And yes, that includes the Roland Cubes.
