No one ever told me to add water to the filter before replacing them either. I just ordered new replacement filters and they do not go in as easy as the old ones. So I'm thankful for this video.

Replacing every 6 months is definitely overkill. I've had mine in for 2 years and aside from growing a third arm everything has been totally fine.

12-25-23, removed and replaced a Icepure RWF0600a with the GE MWF from Lowe’s. Our water didn’t taste bad, but it had been a year and wasn’t sure how old the other filter was. $53 at Lowe’s for a new filter.
Easy to remove and install, a few burps once you try to flush. 👏👏👏

Hi! If we need to wait a bit, to be able to drink a nice water, what about the ice? Should be thrown away??

I changed the filter and pressed my reset button and no water is coming out now. I ordered the filter that GE customer service recommended when I called their 800#.

I've done all that this video instructs and I still can't get the water to dispense. I held on the phone of customer service for over 30 - 40 mins. while also watching a GE DYI if water is not dispensing. Needless to say that I'm very angry because it leaves me to become an appliance maintenance when I've had this Frig. for only 2yrs.

I just replaced my MWF water filter today according to the directions. The red light marked "filter" comes on then goes off. I have replace filters many times before without a problem and this has never happened. Am I doing something wrong?

What if I didn’t put tap water into the filter before I Installed it ?? Do I need to take it out and do it again ?

When I removed the filter a constant flow of water came out until I replaced with the new filter. Flooded my fridge and kitchen. Why did this happen??

I am almost tempted to do a product review.... who ever change the labeling instructions really jacked people it doesn't say anything about putting water inside the filter before installing

I took the filter off and a steady stream of water came out, it had me running around getting containers and towels until we found the shut off valve.

Really glad GE has this video. I didn't know about adding the water first either. Also thought I broke the dispenser because the water just kept coming and not shutting off because I had ordered the wrong filter (just an older version) which probably now that I've seen this video probably would have worked anyway. I have ordered the correct one now and will know what to do this time. Thank you GE very helpful! (also let me know why the water was cloudy and that is normal)

In case anyone is struggling, it doesn't just require a "gentle" push up. I had to shove that fkr up in there.
Don't be afraid to push harder. It wasted 10 minutes being gentle lol

I replaced my filter but when I did water did not flow out of the dispenser any longer. It fridge is making a terrible noise when I press the dispenser and nothing comes out. I tried the using the bypass plug but the same things happens. I tried a different filter (same brand model # etc) but still nothing. Am I going to have to change the entire contraption in the fridge now? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Can someone make a video showing how to open the plastic package? I spend like 20 minutes on that, and 1 minute replacing the filter.
