575 HP Porsche 996 Turbo X50 - (One Take)

The Porsche 996 has sustained a long reputation for reliable speed, and with the recent spike in 80's Porsche Turbo's, it now has a new reputation: the cheapest Porsche Turbo you can buy. Nyx bought this one in San Diego the day before the shoot with plans to drive it all the way home to Virginia, but she decided to swing through LA to let me have a spin first!

Jesus you people are awful. This is a fair warning to keep discussion on topic about cars. Anyone who says some shit about Nyx that I find to be bigoted in nature will be quietly banned from commenting here. If you're a dick in these comments, it will be the last comment on a TST video you ever make, end of discussion.

Guys... this is Nyx. I wanted to update you on this car. I had it for awhile and did quite a few things to it, full paint correction, headlight restoration, hood and front bumper respray, ppf on the front, lots of maintenance. A friend near me bought the car and has done a lot to it. Engine out service to address gaskets, vacuum lines, pinning the coolant pipes, techart bilstein coilovers, retune, and several other mods including an even better exhaust, 4s michelins, intake, etc etc. I believe the car is over 600hp now. I drove it the other day and it was hitting 150mph easily ad traction was cutting in all the time. it has ~85K miles and is just getting broken in.

Hey everyone, thanks for checking out the video and thanks to Matt for having me on his channel!
I left the shoot that morning and drove straight to all in less than 3 days. It was a lot of driving, but pretty comfortable. On the trip back the car was great, no drama/tickets.
Those wheels make the car look insanely good I think, they are the proper size and perfect offsets for a 19" wheel on that car. It's just slightly too low, but easy fix. My other cars are: 1999 m3(dakar yellow) 2008 135i 2008 m3(e90) 2003 Land Rover Disco 2014 BMW s1000rr

Love that she just owns her style. I always feel pressure to steer clear of the 996 even though that X50 is the absolute BALLS!. so cool.

I'm from the future, the 996 Turbo has... gone up

I couldn't agree more with every comment made. I also own a 2003, 996 Turbo. Essentially the same without the X50. So only about 500HP... And 500 LB-FT... only!

The Mezger engine is GLORIOUS. And I've reached rev limit on more occasions than I care to mention. I have no issues with the car and I'm still able to get 1.3 bar on the turbos.

The interior is something that we as 996 owners can argue with others over. I agree with Nyx. The heat that Porsche took was unfairly leveled. You cannot look me in the eye and tell me the 993, 964, or original 911/901 had a better interior because they were only beginning to have an interior at all by the 993. And the 997 was fairly unimaginative. It was simply to appease the 993 owners that were complaining that they didn't get round headlights and the interior was different. This is a common problem with long time Porsche owners. And I somewhat feel this way about the even newer cars. Though a 2007+ Turbo with a stick is also terribly compelling. But is it 2x in cost compelling... I don't think so.

I could really give or take the 991 interior as well. I'm buying a sports car. Not a luxury GT. The wear on my 996s and Boxster has been much better than any other car that I have owned. The biggest aesthetic issue involves the full leather wrapped dash. Cover the dash in the sun. Repeated thermal/solar cycles will wrinkle the leather causing it to pull away from the speaker ports. It sucks pretty much.

The 996 in many ways was the last of the more pure sporting 911 (Though the push towards GT car had begun). There was no Cayman in the lineup at that point. The 911 still had to fulfill that mission as well.

My girlfriend got a 2001, 996 C4 after driving mine the first time. And before that she really didn't care what she was driving. Now she prefers her older 996 to her 2011 335i.

Porsche is primarily selling to the MB crowd of late I think... Hence the lack of clamor for a manual. I'll give the PDK its heritage and dues... But it's just not for me.

I also went through many BMWs before I got here. My 986 Boxster S changed my perceptions about what defined a car much more than pure power. The 996 turbo says... I will be great in all the same ways... But here, have some POWER!

I also have a 996 C2 from 2003. The M96 isn't a terrible engine. You just need to take some precautions. I've put many, extremely hard miles on the 996/986 family of cars. I've been lucky so far. They've taken great care of me and put a smile on my face every time I start one up.

You're going to love this car more and more and more. And the rest of the world won't understand. They'll just try to race you...

To be honest, I agree with her about the 996 design. I don't mind the headlights! Later models, like the GT2, look sexy. God damn, I want one now.

Hi Matt and Hi Nyx, very nice car and loved the video.
Just a clarification about the Type 1 over rev, 33 000 you need to divide it by 3 to obtain the number of engine revolution and then divide it again by the rev limiter.
Might not be exact but as an example, 33 000/3 = 11 000/6750 = 1.62 min (or 98 sec). So the car spent a total of 98 sec at rev limiter.

In regards to over-rev: Ranges 1-3 can be achieved by bumping into the rev limiter (more likely if a car is driven in Sport Chrono Sport Mode). Ignition cycles here are no cause for concern. Range 4-5 This ranges (and beyond) can only be achieved by a miss-downshift and these speeds are pushing the range of physical damage. Carefully inspect the number of ignition cycles that have been recorded in this area.

I have a 996 and definitely like the look of the Forgestar's. Props to Nix for letting her new baby out to play with Matt and crew! Hope the drive back kicked ass. All you haters- keep on living your half-full lives, we'll live the rest of it for you.

This is my new favourite one take. I don't normally watch them all the way thru but this one I did. And I'm ready to watch it again.
