Direct to Film UV Printing | Mutoh XpertJet 661UF

Direct to Film printing with your Mutoh UV Printer is a great way to customize items that are extremely hard to decorate.

In this video we are showing a couple of examples of particular hard-to-decorate items, like textured cups, pint glasses and tumblers.

Here are the step-by-step instructions:

1. Position A sheet (adhesive sheet) shiny side up on vacuum bed of printer oriented and positioned to match your print layout. Activate vacuum bed to hold sheet down. Remove clear plastic liner from A sheet and load printer bed.
*Alternately you can either attach A sheet with masking tape or painter’s tape to a metal sheet or directly to the bed of the printer (do not place the A sheet on a “sticky/silicone mat”) – positioning it to correspond to your print page.

2. From your printing software (RIP) – select to print your design with a white under base, color layer and then clear overcoat. Typical settings would be 1440 x 720 dpi, unidirectional print for the white and clear layers and a 1440 x 720 dpi, bidirectional clear layer printed at 70% clear and a small spread on the clear.

4. Remove the laminated sheet of transfers from the metal blank and trim to separate individual transfers as needed. When ready to apply transfer loosen edge of B transfer media at a corner and turn transfer face down (A sheet side up) and gently peel back A sheet from B film until completely free. Maintain as much as a 180’ angle when pulling A sheet free.

5. Apply the transfer to the surface desired by slowly working from one side to the other smoothing out any bubbles that form as you go (start at the middle for transfers that may be recessed in the middle). Once the transfer is smooth, firmly pressed down and bubble free gently pull away the B film like the A film – 180’ in a smooth motion.

Let transfer set for 24 hours to allow adhesive to full set to substrate before testing adhesion.

Do you have to print white, and then clear coat to make it dishwasher or washing in sink safe?

This is pretty groundbreaking stuff!
I remember when I was first introduced to DTG a decade ago. I used to call up Coldesi for technical support. I never thought all these processes could eventually evolve into a Film Transfer process. Soo good coldesi!

Would it help to warm up the metal substrates to relieve some of the surface tension?

I've been trying to do this with my products by using my Cricut to cut out words, but it's too time consuming. This would be a game changer for smaller businesses. If you look at some cosmetic products their labels are basically tattooed onto their jars. The general public hasn't had much access to this or well I wasn't aware that it was. I didn't even know what it was actually called. This is the closest thing to it that I've seen. I really want to find someone who will print them up for me so I can use them for my jars. If you guys can help with this please let me know.

I need your help in a matter and I apply it in the same way, but after printing, when separating the A film from the B film, although I am very careful, do the paints have wrinkles in the paint? I need your help in this matter.

It would be great if the laminate paper had grid lines so you can put it on straight every time and in the same place

This is nice to see but I’m trying to understand the sheet used.
Is that a special dtf sheet with a dtf pickup or is that just any sheet with glue picked up by the backing paper.
I can see that no powder was used so I’m guessing the glue was already on the sheet.
I’m looking at costs.
Printer cost + cost of that sheet, release paper etc.
Thanks.

I have a question. I've got some uv prints getting done for bmx parts. Specifically a bmx sprocket, the sprocket has a hole in the center . The print will cover the hole, but obviously there is no material where the whole is. Do you think it would mess up the application when trying to remove it ? Perhaps taking up the rest of the decal ? (Hope I'm making sense)
