Recently I moved from San Francisco to LA (Venice Beach)...

I’m a nerd so I had a few different spreadsheets to help decide where to move and what house to move into. 🙃

Good stuff here! When you have a family, the quality of schools and proximity of school is extremely important, as well as space to grow, size and quality of yard (to play outside), and a garage (to allow loading/unloading kids, groceries, etc. in swiftest fashion). At least, those things were important for us.

Safety is important. I've found some really nice cities online that look idyllic, but then when I research the crime rate, they actually turn out to be the worst places you could ever move to! I would recommend everyone definitely do a crime check first.

Love this! Didn't use the spreadsheet, but definitely had a similar model when deciding to move to San Diego. Also, love how you started from scratch (a lot of people put extra weight based on where they already are because change is hard). I think that's an important criteria for making any decision!

Thank for your comments. I agree with you and I think that a lot of decisions depend on the specific situation for which you are moving. For example if you are moving for job, probably you will consider different things that if you are moving for personal decision. Anyway, I think that there are things that are non-negotiable or a little negotiable (for example, in my case: quality of people, natural lightning, comfortable house or flat, closeness to different parts of city, transport, etc.). Oh my gosh! I am dealing with this issue right now. It was kind of sudden, been wanting to move for a while and not able to bc of family, but now we have the ability to move and nothing really holding us where we are. It’s exciting but so scary. This is helpful. I can’t seem to find the spreadsheet tho? Did I miss it? Omer made some good points that have been part of my criteria too— schools, etc. I have a ten year old so that has been difficult bc the places we are looking to move have crappy schools. :( this is hard. We are open to other places but I’d have a guaranteed job at one of the places (not all my income but at lease some to start), we are considering Orlando and Santa Fe. But open to other places not freezing cold and places where the arts thrive. And where there are wellness opportunities too. If y’all have any advice/suggestions, I’m happy to hear. I’ve always wanted to live in Chicago for the improv comedy community but I can’t handle the cold. I currently live in jersey, right near Philly. Love being 15 min from Philly and two hours from nyc. Will miss that... :( help! ♥️♥️♥️ Thanks!!

Love this! I actually felt extremely validated in my decision to live in Nashville as I watched this. The PEOPLE here are usually very faith centered and have their own creative pursuits, I live a day's drive from my hometown while still living in a place with some southern culture (my favorite), and my specific living situation could not be better. I am crazy blessed by it.

I am a sophomore at College of Charleston, wondering if you went there too but anyways, thank you this was very helpful and my plan right now is to move from Charleston and take a pause on my classes there because its not the best fit. I want to live somewhere with some great job opportunity for young adults especially coming from some college experience. Do you have any general city recommendations for that kind of moving jump?
