Yeah, we all know she made a mistake at 0:19 BUT she covered herself and was able to get right back into it (that’s hard for a lot of pianist especially performing in front of so many people) This is literally one of the top three hardest studies by Chopin using the weakest fingers. This is a really good example to show all piano majors/pianist that no one truly is the most perfect. Don’t knock her down... especially if you can’t play it!

Happy birthday Kate !! may 23 (2024).
We love you so much!!.
we want Kate to play a lot of Chopin music from now on.
I'm looking forward to it .

She had a meltdown at 0:19 which probably caused her to get low scores on round 1, almost eliminating her. Good for her for recovering and showing everyone she deserved to be here

The last part was good . Also the best pianist can make a mistake.

Given the INSANE level of technical skill in these modern young pianists it's rare to hear a true CLUNKER like that one moment we all heard, but nothing makes me happier than seeing a young musician get through a mistake and recover. I honestly sonetimes wish I heard more of those kinds of mistakes, like on old records before digital :)

I think many people don´t realize how insanely difficult this piece actually is. It's easily the most difficult Chopin Etude (along with Op25.nr6).

Sir Fryderyk Chopin is the pride of Poland! The whole country is very proud of him!

Oh but she plays it so beatifully, with so much elegance despite the speed. Absolutely admire her composure for the recovery under pressure. Fantastic.

The difficulty of this one is underrated. I think it is possibly the hardest in 12 and 25.

Her hands glide so elegantly and swiftly across the piano as of she is not trying, but rather enjoying.

It's mesmerizing to watch. Her hand is like a scuttling spider!

Among other great pianists, I had the opportunity to hear Claudio Arrau's and Alexis Weisenberg's live performances . I have never heard Kate Liu live, but I find her superior to those pianists when it comes to Chopin's music.

She played it perfectly in the prelims. Hands must have been a bit stiff that day.

Isn't it a little crazy that one mistake in such a piece is so obvious to many/is considered worth mentioning? Like when I played in school everyone was like "wow" haha even though I ofc played way worse than her (and the piece was way easier)

It's a shame her technique isn't as consistent or as polished as the other winners, whereas her musicality trumps the others.

Missing the chord tones in the right hand. But who am I? I can’t play like that

Her the other Etude(no 5) was beautiful. Why did she choose this one? maybe she was panicked at first few mistakes.
