As someone who struggles with indecisiveness, I agree with Twily. Being able to summon and dismiss the horns and wings at will is a perk.

Also, it's made of light. So it's super magical and sparkly ✨️

It's true, Twilight did indeed get screwed over. if she was able to just turn her horn and wings on and off like Sunny can then it would've made things easier for her because Twilight could've stayed a unicorn.

And as for Sunny, i'm not sure if she would want to be an Alicorn permanently either. sure she loves having magic but even she would have problems if she was stuck with the horn and wings 24/7.

I haven’t read the comics, so if they explain it I don’t know.
But I like to think that Sunny’s version of Alicorn was Invented by Twilight, because of all the issues that she went through because of the sudden change to her body.

If magic was completely stable in the G5 timeline, Do you think Sunny Starscout would have permanently became an Alicorn? What do you think the rest of the G4_Alicorns like Celestia, Luna, Cadence, Flurry Heart and possibly Luster Dawn would say about her?

Also I would like to point out that sunset shimmer did something extremely similar in the Equestria girls movies even though it wasn't called out it was technically still a pseudo alicorn form so technically

We're all focusing on the advantages of the wings and horn being temporary for Twilight, but what about the REST of the Mane 6? If Cozy Glow could turn alicorn with enough magic in her, and Pinkie, then theoretically ALL of them could. Think of the kind of things the Mane 6 could have done if Twilight was able to temporarily lend her power to THEM, or teach them how to summon alicorn powers temporarily on their own. A world where, instead of their being ONE Alicorn ruler, there were SIX, all working in harmony for the betterment of the kingdom.

From my love of MLP: FIM, Twilight gained her princess status by finishing a book (by Starswirl the Bearded) and got her wings from Celestia.
Sunny became an alicorn from the three crystals cause of her speech about friendship
