Starfield is Genuinely Brilliant (1 Year Later)

In this video, I talk about Starfield and why it is genuinely brilliant. If you're a fan of sci-fi games this is a must play, and is an out-of-this-world gaming experience, one you should definitely play before the Shattered Space DLC comes out.

Let's get one thing straight, this game is far from perfect. There are a fair few things that are wrong with the game, as there are with a lot of games, and there are somethings that admittedly are flat out unacceptable in a modern day release. But in an overall sense, this is one of the most fun games I have played in a really long time. One that I would argue is quintessentially Bethesda.

To be perfectly honest, I first played this game right when it was available on game pass. As a fan of Fallout 4 (another controversial opinion I know), I figured if what bethesda was selling was a Fallout game but in space, it would be a perfectly good way of passing the time. And since it was on xbox game pass I didn't have to spend any more money that I wasn't already spending.

However the more I played, the more I understood that this game is a slow burn, all the things that I initially saw as boring, such as the questing just got better and better the more I played the game. Even the ship combat which I vowed I would do as little as possible at the start of my play through became so much more fun the more I progressed the game with different ships, perks, and just larger scale combat. The general combat also got more fun as I got more perks, powers and guns.

It turned out Starfield is Genuinely Brilliant!

I’ve been playing starfield for like a week straight now and I’m enjoying it

The only thing that breaks the game for me is leaving and landing on the planets, vehicles and flying in space . I wish it was more like no man's sky in that sense

Takes stones to say something positive about this game online. I respect it. Glad you enjoyed it!

And cue the heel face turn lmao
I think we're going to see more and more reviews like this. But yeah, I've loved Starfield since it released.

Just checked my stats and I have played Starfield for a collective amount of 11 days and 13 hours (277hrs) and been having a blast. Did all of the main and faction quests, did most if not all of the side content, made some cool ships and outposts, I even NG+ a couple of times. Now with that being said, how is anyone able to play a game for 500 hours or more and still not like it? I understand not feeling it within the first 2-5 hours and put it down but to trudge through a game that you don't even like for that long is crazy! Just rage playing the game, not even enjoying what they're doing

You're a breath of fresh air. Man, the worst thing you can do is say your opinion may be "controversial"; opinions are not controversial, they're just opinions. The toxic culture of gaming and our social media obsessed society in general wants to make us feel bad for expressing our opinions if they are not "popular", like somehow it's lame to love a game that "everyone" hates. I love a lot of unpopular games and I'd never for a moment feel embarrassed about that. I think Fallout 4 is the best of the entire Fallout franchise and I think Starfield is even better than Fallout 4, and I couldn't give a flying rat's ass if anyone agrees with me on that or not. Great video liked and shared keep up the good work!

I was a bit meh with starfield, after the rev8 update I hopped back in. I changed the difficulty to make enemies really strong, but also me really strong, so enemies aren't spongy. I also removed enemy markers and most of the hud. Now I have to play really tactically. A mod to change planet gen and up the amount of flora. Now forests feel like real forests. I'm having a great time now!

I honestly keep going back to it. I can say that I’ve never wasted money on a Bethesda game. When you compare what some other developers are offering at the same price point, but that’s his games have always been a bargain in my opinion. I have returned to Skyrim fallout and Starfield all this year and have pumped in another 2 to 3 dozen hours into the games. I hardly ever do that with other games. Not only do I like to return to the atmospheres that they have created, but to see what mods or updates have done to the game progressively just keeps the replay value far greater than other games. For single player atmospheric games I think Bethesda still offers the absolute best for your money.

Funnily I had the same experience as you did. Tried it, didn’t like it, put it aside and forgot about it until I watched a video. Tried it again and suddenly fell in love. It’s far from perfect but I had a lot of fun in this game in the end!

Been through the Unity 24 times, presently at level 242. Still loving the gameplay. Waiting patiently for Shattered Space DLC. The people that can't stand for others to have their own opinions are the trolls here, Melvin.

Upon release, I thought the game was meh. I rushed through the whole game to see this "New Game+". I didn't spend enough time anywhere to appreciate aspects of the game, and I let the internets opinion of this game ruin my own.. But...

I'm currently 200 hours into my second playthrough, and I feel so incredibly immersed in this game and have not grown tired of it. Incredible story lines and characters, a well thought out universe, and some INCREDIBLY beautiful planets if you are willing to give exploration a chance.

Once this game started getting hate, for things like 30fps on console at launch, no seemless launching/landing off of worlds, and IMO the MISUNDERSTANDING that all planets are barren of content, people just ran with the hate and it snowballed. I think many of us who love the game now were influenced by this hate at launch. This game wasn't given a fair chance and I hope after a few DLCs people come back and just play the game for what it is, I think they will thoroughly enjoy it

I just started playing it and I’m actually enjoying it quite a bit. It’s not perfect by any means, but I like it enough to solely focus on it

I've loved Starfield since day one...preordered, had my work computer's wallpaper as Starfield concept art for a year or more leading up to launch, have a Starfield t-shirt, etc. I still love the game and it is among my favorites, but it's not without its flaws and downright bad aspects. Despite its flaws, I have over 250 hours in the game and I'm looking forward to going back and playing it again once Shattered Space drops.

I've been saying for 6+ months that we're going to start seeing more "Starfield is underrated" type videos coming out as time goes on, and it looks like that has started as I've come across 3 videos like this one in the last couple weeks. Good video, and I'm glad you're enjoying the game!

I feel like they could just add some dynamic events and really make some sort of weather system. Play tornadoes, better storms, it would be so much better

Same here. I love Starfield, even with its flaws.

I had never played a Bethesda game previous to this year, yet I’m having a blast playing Starfield. It’s a game for a more mature audience as there isn’t much sex, cursing, or drugs (from what I’ve seen), and it’s a really nice change of pace for someone like myself who also enjoys GTA. In Starfield the world isn’t out to get you, it’s waiting for you to explore it by meeting new people, forging new relationships, and getting thrown into unique situations. The choices I make during a quest-line have an affect on the outcome of the situation and also what other people believe or don’t believe, like the Terrormorph questline. Also, you receive exclusive spaceships, spacesuits, clothes, accessories, and official titles by completing these quests.

I love the gameplay but I hate the world. Everything about it feels wrong. Like how the Free Star Collective must have billions of citizens, but the Freestar Rangers is composed of five people and they have the owner of a strip mall space station on their council of governors. The game should have been set right after the evacuation of Earth, after an apocalypse that killed 99% of the population (that would still leave 100 million people) or more. That would be a perfect setting for pirates, poverty, and settlement building.

I have 200 hours into Starfield so far. I've been playing for about 6 months and plan to play it a lot more. Been playing Bethesda games since fallout 3 and always put alooootttt of time into these games. I currently have ~3, 400 hours into fallout 76, to give perspective on what I mean by alot. I too have watched a lot of the hate videos and noticed that while SOME of the criticisms are accurate, there is a lot of inaccurate claims being made and incorrect assumptions. But mainly what I wanted to say was that I like what youre saying about the side quests. I've been saying basically the same thing. I really feel like the main story isn't even meant to be the main thing you do in Starfield. I feel like the main story only exists to make the amount of long and in depth side quests more fun to do. I'm constantly doing something fun or interesting when I'm playing. I totally understand that some people simply just don't like Starfield and that's expected. But I also feel like some of the people hating are only doing it because it's the current "cool" thing to do lol. And a lot of the YouTube videos hating on it only exist because the creators of the videos know they'll get alot of views. Not every video but I've seen a couple channels clearly milking the Starfield hate for views. Good video!
