"How you do anything is how you do everything."  - a little gem almost hidden in the talk

You become what you think about!
Most powerful thing I’ve learned when I was homeless at the age of 11!
I then became the first division 1 football player ever out of my school, graduated on a full scholarship, and now own a gym in Westchester New York!

"100% commitment is easier than 98% commitment"
I'm really relate to this because I always feel guilty every single time to do it.
I COMMIT TO QUIT DRINKING 100%.

Honesty, TED blurring out his shirt was the best advertising he could have hoped for... made us all a lot more curious trying to figure out what it said then I even googled it and ended up finding his course. If it been a clear shirt without blurring I would have NEVER noticed and definitely wouldn’t have stumbled onto his website. Too funny.

SUMMARY:

🌟#1 SELF IMAGE

Self image How you see yourself. How you see yourself determines how you act.

See yourself, not from your current circumstances, but from the circumstances you hope you have

Listen over and over again to a different Output and RE-wire your belief system through REPETITION

Your input changes your output. Your outlook changes how you act

Listen to things that train you to see yourself differently

Bold behavior --> peak experience --> Identity Shift

🌟(4.22) #2 SPEND MONEY ON YOUR GOALS

Invest money in your FUTURE identity, not your current one.

Tell a story based on the FUTURE, not on the past.

Explain yourself based on who you are going to be and where you're going, NOT on who you were, and why you are the way you are.

🌟 #3 THE POINT OF NO RETURN

(4.25) Study of Wannabe Entrepreneurs vs Actual Successful Entrepreneurs

"Have you ever had a point of no return experience?"

A moment where you can't go back to who you were, and you are forced to move forward and shift into a new identity.

"A mind stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions"

No longer be the person you formerly were. Be the person you want to be, NOW.

Because of this identity shift, in 18 months, Tom lost 175 lbs started a successful company, changed his whole life

🌟#4 (7.57) WHY FAD DIETS, 30 DAY DIETS DON'T WORK

Changing your behavior has to start with FIRST a changing your identity.

When your identity is in CONFLICT with your goals, it does not work.

"How you do anything is how you do everything"

🌟#5 100% COMMITMENT IS EASIER THAN 98 % COMMITMENT

(8.34) Story of Elco from Amsterdam

Struggled with his weight his entire life

Always had a story in his head that he will always struggle with his weight and self-destructive behavior

He struggled to sleep

One night he had a thought come to him:

"What would happen if I went back to nature and eat clean?"

Then a second thought came to him:

"What would happen if I did this for the rest of my life?"

From that moment, he saw what was possible.

"100% commitment is easier than 98% commitment."

If you are only 98% committed, you haven't really made a decision.

🌟#6 DECISION FATIGUE

(10.55) When you haven't made a decision, you're not actually clear on what you're going to do.

This leads to a tug of war in your mind, when the moment comes and you have to make a decision.

This is called DECISION FATIGUE, otherwise known as Willpower

You haven't made a choice, and you're not actually sure what you're going to do.

Because you're unsure, the situation wins over you.

And Social Psychology states that people are the byproduct of their situation.

"Once I made a decision, I never thought about it again" - Micheal Jordan

Once you make a decision, you have to cut off all alternative options

🌟#7 ASK THIS QUESTION for a PERMANENT SHIFT

(12.04) Shift your idenity by asking the question:

"What would happen if I did this for the rest of my life?"

Not just for 30 days.. Not just for 1 year... But for the rest of my life?

"Why would you do something for only for a year? WHat would happen a year from now? What if you just made the decision and no longer have to play a mebtal tug of war for the rest of your life?

🌟#8 WHY WILLPOWER DOESN'T WORK

(13.21) An example with the alarm clock.
When you haven't made a DECISION that you'll wake up at a certain time, when the alarm goes off you're not really sure what you're going to do.

And since the situation always wins if you haven't made the decision, so you'll probably hit the snooze button.

Write a list of PROS and CONS
"What would happen if I did this for the rest of my life?

The biggest PRO is that once you make this decision, you would never have to think about it again.

When you WILLPOWER your way through a goal, or set short goals, you are never actually able to let go of the thing you really want to let go of.

Once you're able to make a decision on who you want to be for the rest of your life. and once you make that shift by giving it 100% and putting off all other options

You will be FREE, and be aligned with who you really want to be, and start doing things you've been putting off for years.

🌟#8 CONFIDENCE

Confidence is the byproduct of prior performance

Once you start acting confidently and Powerfully, you develop confidence.

Confidence than allows you to develop imagination, see a bigger future, and believe in yourself

Confidence allows you to be courageous

🌟#9 REFLECT IN YOUR OWN LIFE

"What are some of the things YOU have been resisting?

What are some of the things YOU have been thinking of doing... that has been on your mind for a long time.

You can't do it through willpower. You have to do it through making the Shift to becoming who you want to be.

I've known Benjamin since he was born and - he's an epic human. He puts his money where his mouth is and practices what he preaches in every way. And he studies and researches relentlessly because he wants to help people realize their potential. I admit I am a little biased but it's well deserved in this case.

1. Think ahead:
Envision yourself how you want to be and commit to that vision. How you see yourself is how you act. Behave according to the circumstances you hope to have.
2. Be 100 percent committed to your goal. This eliminates mental fatigue you go through when u have to make a decision.

Better than reading 100 self-help books. Decision fatigue is something I've unknowingly struggled with for many years. Now I have a name and a solution for it. Thank you, Ben.

1:35 “How you see yourself is how you act.”
2:28 change your input so you change your output.
3:08 Dress for the job you want, not the one you got.
3:58 Talk less of who I am and was and talk about who you’re gonna be.
5:14 What made a point of no return, a point of no return? Answer was he invested in a position he had to move forward. There was an Identity shift.
9:55 Imagine what is possible and commit.
10:22 “100% is easier then 98% committed.” You are sure, there is no doubt. Get rid of decision fatigue.

Stop questioning who you’re gonna be, SEE THEM AND BE THEM.

This echos several different stages in my life: in my early 20s when I realized I had to stop defining myself through the lens of my family (and stop blaming them for who I was) and become who I wanted to be; in my late 30s when I committed 100% to restarting my education after years of thinking it was too late for me, then getting my BS and MS degrees within 8 years while working full-time; and again at 50 when, in the space of 1 year, I lost my husband of 21 years, moved interstate to take a new job, then was made redundant / laid-off and lost both my car and my house but knew that I was able to pick my self up and start over again. Making the decision is everything.
