Half of the universe’s baryonic matter has been missing, but astronomers just found it. Where exactly was it and what took us so long?

The Mystery of the Universe's Missing ‘Normal’ Matter Has Begun to Unravel
“There are the longstanding challenges with pinpointing dark energy and dark matter, two invisible components that together make up more than 95 percent of the cosmos. But there is also the lesser-known problem of missing baryon particles.”

Half the universe’s missing matter has just been finally found
“You have probably heard about the hunt for dark matter, a mysterious substance thought to permeate the universe, the effects of which we can see through its gravitational pull. But our models of the universe also say there should be about twice as much ordinary matter out there, compared with what we have observed so far.”

Astronomers Found Two Massive Galaxies Amid an Ocean of Dark Matter
“The discovery provides new details on the role that dark matter played in assembling large structures in the universe. Astronomers say the amount of dark matter that “clumped” in one area in order to create galaxies this large would have been quite rare.”

I bet the remaining 95% consists of all the things we have dropped from our chair in the school and never found.

We keep coming up with new ways to say "I don't know, but please keep funding my research"

It’s also hiding half of my universal burger business.

I wonder what the universe look like if you could somehow suck out all the dark energy and dark matter....

Not dark matter filaments. Plasma filaments.

Dear Dnews, please upload a video with your new closing theme playing all throughout -- and with a volume suggestive of the foreground!

If there's two things I know about the universe.. it's that it's big, and this host is afraid of combs.

Thank you for not talking about a sponsor in the last 25 seconds of the video since the video is only 2 minutes long

Great! Now can you tell me where the other half of this video went?

Kinetic energy is the dark energy. It is only observable in its effect. Our cars use chemical energy stored in the fuel, stored by biological processes, hence the name fossil fuel, are converted into thermal and kinetic Energies because our methods (of converting energy into other types) are still primitive. It seems every method Humanity has (regarding energy) leaks thermal energy.

You wouldn't usually think *anti-matter* would be a *bright* idea

I love the video, but I'm curious as to what the background music is.

So what you're saying is that the photons pass through a medium of excited particles and produce more photons via stimulated emission the same way a laser would work?
If I'm right I think that means I'm learning stuff.

Dude, you need to update your info... Scientists recently abandoned the "dark matter and dark energy".

DID HE JUST ASSUME I'M MADE OF BARYONIC MATTER? TRIGGERED

PBS space times video on this subject was far far far better. Talking about how gravity and help funnel this whim plasma into galaxies which help full new star formation from galaxies we had believed would no longer be star forming due to their age.
