When we posted this recipe for batik cake so many of you commented about the different variations around the world. So for all you South Africans out there, this one’s for you! There seem to be many names for this dessert in South African including fudge, brownies, smudge and munchies but they all seem to be about the same. We’re starting with Marie or Maria biscuits broken into small pieces. We learned the hard way that some of you are VERY passionate about the name of these biscuits but I’m here to tell you that they’re all the same, just with a different name depending on the country.

Next try Jamaica, as in add a couple of hash pieces to the melting butter and mix that in with the chocolate before you put the Marias in...chill, eat and fly...

My grandma adds a chocolate bar on top .. melting it and spreading it on the whole platter. Her recipe includes, golden syrup, condensed milk, butter, cocoa powder, sugar not pwdered and Marie biscuits.

In my family we call them "Engel koekies", which translates to angel cookies. The recipe in my mom's book is very similar, but with two packs of biscuits, two eggs and no vanilla extract. Might add some the next time I make them

Mine is soft. Not like other recipes turned out could i melt it and add more icing sugar make its tufffer. Mine was not as thick as yours when i put it in my bowls

You don't exactly tell us how long it should cook. I took it off heat until velvety texture and covered the biscuits and now the consistency is too soft it won't set..
