Top 10 McDonald’s Menu Items We Wish They’d Bring Back

The first McDonald’s was opened on May 15, 1940, by brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald. When it first opened, McDonald’s was a barbecue restaurant and in the early days, they had 25 items on their menu. However, at the end of World War II, the brothers realized that 80 percent of their sales were hamburgers. So they shut down the restaurant for a few weeks, and reopened with a smaller menu that had just nine items: hamburgers, cheeseburgers, three soft drink flavors available in 12-ounce cups, milk, coffee, potato chips, and pie. The idea behind the new store was to focus on speed and lower prices.

Back in the day when I was in my teens I worked at a McDonalds, and it was one of the stores that test-marketed the McPizza. The test-market of this pizza was far superior to the actual release pizza by far, and at the time beat most pizza chains. On top of the room needed for the special oven, and the drive through window problem, you also had to have a specialized cooler that probably took up more space than even the oven. To make it a little faster a store would make up a bunch of "blanks" where the cooler would have a bunch of semi-made pizza's with only half the cheese on it and topped off as needed.

As for the Selects (since I live in an area that marketed it) the problem is they are really good if fresh, but they don't hold too well, so if it's not fresh the selects tended to be Luke-warm, chewie, and not very appetizing. When the McNuggets changed after the PR disaster when how they were produced was leaked, it cut into the purpose of the selects market further.

Back when the Deluxe's were released when McDonald's tried to appeal to the older crowed, many stores dropped the traditional menu almost entirely, so for a time you couldn't get the traditional filet-o-fish or even the cheeseburger. Happy Meals were then limited.

I'm surprised such creations as the "McLean" and the "McDLT" were on this list. McLean was made with a very lean patty for those trying to cut cholesterol, but it didn't last too long. the "McDLT" was a big sandwich for a long long time. its selling point in commercials was "The hot stay's hot and the cool stay's cool". I doubt they'd be able to sell it now because it would require bringing back the old Styrofoam packaging needed to separate and maintain the different temperatures of the 2 sides of the burger.

The Apple pies were amazing and I still miss them. There is thankfully a decent alternative now. KFC makes a deep fried Apple Turnover that looks and tastes very similar to the old McDonald's Apple pies.

You know, just a couple weeks ago, nobody would have even known they'd ever even had Szechuan Sauce, but now after the Rick and Morty season premier, that's *all* people want!

And I’ll go and I’ll find some more of that Mulan Szechuan teriyaki dipping sauce Morty, because that’s what this is all about, Morty, that’s my one-armed man. I’m not driven by avenging my dead family, Morty, that was fake. I’m driven by finding that McNugget sauce. I want that Mulan McNugget sauce, Morty, that’s my series arc, Morty. If it takes nine seasons, I want my McNugget dipping sauce Szechuan sauce, Morty. That’s what’s going to take us all the way to the end, Morty. Season, nine more seasons Morty, nine more seasons until I get that dipping Szechuan sauce…

Anybody remember those fish mcbites in 2013? Those were AMAZING. I probably gained 5 pounds from eating them so much. They came in a box with a holder for the tartar sauce, it was amazing!

I just recently spent 3 months in Japan. While the Mega Tamago is in fact not available, the McDonalds' in Japan did have a few select burgers that did feature a fried egg. Those burgers were absolutely delicious!!! My favorite was one that was like a McDouble with a fried egg and had teriyaki sauce added!
