Very good. Appreciate your passion for RT.

Just to make it easier to remember the formula maybe try:

old. x old. = new x new
CO2 x MV. =desiredCO2 x new MV
50 x 6.0. = 40 x X
You'll get in the same place. Was easier for me to remember.

With O2 changes
OldFiO2/OldPaO2=NeFiO2/NePaO2

(trying to fit it on one line)

Minute ventilation for the win! Especially in an ideal world where we are calculating Vt from IBW. Then we can always just determine our change in RR for proper CO2 clearance. Great explanation!

Thank you Respiratory Coach for being so passionate about Respiratory. We really appreciate the knowledge. Can we get more TMC question please. Happy and healthy New Year to you and your family.

Once you figure out current minute ventilation, I use the following formula.

Current minute ventilation x current PaCO2 ÷ desired PaCO2

RRXVT= 6000mL =6 L/m
6x50=300÷40 (desired PaCo2)
=7.5L
