Matt Malone is what you'd call a professional "dumpster diver." He says he can bring in a considerable amount of cash on the side.

Okay so I watched some dumpster diver videos yesterday. So I really wanted to try it. I went to about 6 stores and nothing. So I had to stop at aldi's for some stuff but I hit their dumpster first. I got lots of unopened packaged food and some other stuff. I only told my daughter. No one else would understand. My secret for now. I'm going back to Aldi's tonight when they close then Pier 1 imports. Super excited - it's like treasure hunting!

To be a dumpster diver needs patience, perseverance and whole lot of faith.

Now I believe that a man's trash is someone else treasure.

As I just said to another poster here - I also don't place specific bins or locations on line. FB or YouTube. Corporations see this stuff and then lock their bins.

I take 90% of my food hauls to a couple of local street pantries. I also make sure there is still enough in the bin for others after me.

Both the bins I frequent, also have a dozen or so people who are either dirt poor, couch surfing or on the verge of homelessness! I'm very aware that advertising a good bin, can have unintended but not so good consequences!

A Really Long story! If I had a way of taking the larger stuff or multiple items when dumpster diving, I would. When I found out that grocery store was closing, I got to go 3 times and found a good amount of stuff, on the last day I was able to go, the dumpster was filled with lots of TV dinners from cheaper to Hungry Man, I did take alot, although had I been able to take more I would have. My house is 4 rooms, 5 if you count the hallway and its separated by 2 connected lines, the kitchen, bathroom and hallway are on one line, while the living room and bedroom on the other line. I come close to burning the house down cause of this fact when I put 2 heaters on the same line and overloaded the electricity and it even put my refrigerator out of commission for about a week to get the cord replaced and that was not fun. I would like to have the electrical upgraded to brand new wiring with multiple connections from the breaker box, so that will never happen again, just no money. Cause of this fact I can not heat the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and even the hallway, I choose to do it this way in hopes my dogs will stay warm, yet those drafty holes in their room make it hard to keep it warm, so if you are a praying person, pray that GOD intercedes, one day I may just want to leave if that's GODs plan, I would move if I could in a way, the noisy horns that pass through hurts my babies ears and they will wail in pain and if I had the money to buy or even rent a place that would accept dogs, I would consider moving, yet most rent houses I checked on, up to $600+, they also don't allow dogs and I get a total of $726 in social security. I probably could get a low income apartment, however most will not let you have large dogs, Charcoal and Mandy are Labradors and I do not want to get rid of them, someone threw them out like garbage and I can NOT bring myself to do that to them, they are my BABIES! I LOVE THEM TOO MUCH! I don't know what plans GOD has for us. I hope I can figure that out and move on if that was GODs plan. I wanted to stay in this house because it was my grandmas house, being it was historic I wanted to live here all my life, yet there is no stores close and I would have to bike up to 15 miles or more if I wanted or needed to go to town, it takes around 2 hours one way, 4 hours both directions and no bathroom stops unless you find a tree to hide behind and no real way of carrying dumpster finds or even purchases for that matter. Because I am so POOR, I don't even see a vehicle in my future and no way of driving. Things just happen that we can't explain that only GOD has the answers to. I would like to do better, much better than I am now. My life has crashed down on top of me, though I haven't suffocated yet, sometimes it feels like it, I HOPE GOD INTERCEDES SOON IN OUR LIVES! HOPE YOU HAVE A TRULY BLESSED DAY and NIGHT!

Just saw a lawyer talking about dumpster diving and the law. It seems the trash is technically in "Someone else's Dumpster", so you are basically trespassing. Still though, I can't wait to try this out.

That's pretty bad when you can make more money digging out of a trash can then what a rich business person can pay their employees I'm one of those people that are tired of making someone else rich with my time and labor While they give me chump change I'd rather work 8 hours A-day digging out of a Trash can

OK I have a question for the guy doing the diving in Houston. Do you disclose to the people who you sell the items to that they were sourced from a Dumpster Dive?
I’d love to know what everyone’s thoughts on this topic are.
Personally I think there should be some kind of a rule or etiquette in place that you must disclose this information to a buyer if nothing else simply for health standards alone.
