People are still going to travel there regardless. They’ll just tent it. Wasn’t just about the bus it was about the story.

I feel bad for the people who go wandering for days looking for it not knowing it had been removed

Disposal? That's a cash cow for whatever town nearby that wants to preserve it.

The bus has been adopted by University of Alaska so that it can be visited safely. They ask for donations via their website.

RIP McCandless. May God receives your soul.

Why does the government feel they have to protect us from everything. The people trekking to the bus know the risk, that’s why they did it. To challenge themselves and pay homage to a kindred soul. It’s almost sacrilegious to remove his bus.

The news especially now, saddens me immensely. I somewhat feel that Chris must be happy knowing this, he wouldn't have wanted for any casualties. However, I wish the bus remained...

This was a pointless thing to do. Might as well outlaw hiking since it's dangerous also.

How dare they. That’s a historical sight for the trails and they can’t just move it from the end of trail. Why it just down right criminal.

There should be laws saying that once you go into the wilderness, you're on your own and you shouldn't expect the government to come save you.

I'm pretty sure they removed it because they were sick of inexperienced idiots stranding themselves and crying for the forest rangers to come save them.

I just watched the film, Into The Wild, It was excellent. It"s my second time watching it. Now that I am older, I understand Chris' motives and life story so much better. I have mixed feelings about the removal of the, "Magic Bus". My gut tells me, leave it, it is a memorial. However, too many people have lost their lives trying to see it and be in the place where Chris passed. I hope there is a nice memorial for it and for people to go and pay their respects. RIP Chris McCandless ✝
