This is straight up Eyeballing.
You could run into a lot of trouble using the Eyeballing technique. You have to be absolutely spot on

I always use a little three foot strate edge when cutting door way seams I’ve never free handed a carpet seam

Ok to be clear, using a straight edge does not make you a beginner...the way this dude is cutting his seams is ridiculous...if it works for him that's great, but this method is nonsense

So I can't tell you missed 2 and some might say 3 steps. You definitely need a board under so you don't burn your padding and also you need a small 16in 2x12 on top of the seam to press the glue into the carpet to make sure no return for repair is needed

I like how the guy uses a ‘ loop pile cutter blade ‘ in his knife … I prefer to use concave blades, however, everyone has their own different styles. Good job mate !
