The problem with wireless sensor are they used different type of cell battery and some arent commonly available. Buying bulk wont solve it either since battery has shelf life.

This is a very good lesson to learn. I've lost count how many times I've been told, "This is the future!" only to see it die within 10 years. Trust your gut, and hold out until the technology is _mature_ . I know it can be tempting to make an early switch, but even early iterations of successful products can burn you financially.

I am a big fan of POE. Give me POE and I'll be happy. No problems with wireless going out cause no batteries or signal disruption

Just pop a usb cable on and power them with phone chargers.

Philips hue motion. Also measures temperature well. Uses 2x AAA batteries, and lasts 2 years. I have 5 of them in my house, no issues so far.

I avoid flat lithium battery devices, except for on switches that mostly wake up when activated.

Those Aqara ones you showed never have issues for me - I've been running them for 6 months on the batteries that they came with and they're still going. My Philips Hue Dimmer switches are also still running on the original batteries more than 4 years later. Zigbee is great!

A tip: make sure you're not using cheap amazon cell batteries. I've done that and they die in about a month maximum.

lol that will be anoying very fast when the battery dies per device one by one, personally like if they include external power input and preffer barrel 12v dc jack, easy to replace and solder unlike usb c or micro usb

Tech enthusiasts: "my entire house is smart, I've automated everything"

Tech workers: "the only additional piece of technology that I have in my house is a printer, and I keep a loaded shotgun pointed at it in case it makes a noise I don't like"

The YouTube channel "The Hook Up" did a comparison video of a bunch of different door sensors and found that the Aqara ZigBee door and window sensors were by far and a way the best sensors you can buy in terms of battery life, I'm talking like more than double the next closest sensor in battery life I think

People laugh at me for sticking to plug-in wifi gear and having a wired doorbell and PoE security camera, but I *never* have to swap batteries. The only batteries I have to swap are our radiator knobs, other than that everything is wired.

I feel your pain... 2450 cells in magnetic contacts for alarm... At least my lasted about 2.5 years...

Lol that sucks, feel bad for ya. You could look into the trig board.

Wire them up to some little solar panels? I don't think they need direct sunlight; even indirect sunlight reflecting off of a white wall will trickle charge a rechargable battery I would think. Surely these electronics don't have high power needs, right?

Hey I seen you have been doing some interesting stuff, I was curious about making windows, or a bad version of it, run on a computer, of which is built in minecraft.
The most computing power I have gotten is a 16:9 replica of the chrome t-rex game, ur a smart guy, so I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.

I am for hardwire 12v / 5v in every house xD

Completely, don't need any of that stuff. Do yourself a favor and pitch it all. Unhook from overly complicated solutions that do nothing for you.
