While still not an ideal situation it's quite an achievement to clean up such a mess as that.

So do they remove the toxins that can leech or do they just burn them and dice them up for playgrounds and call it recycled? Cuz the toxic fire is concerning, but if they’re used for fuel isn’t that the same thing, just in a controlled environment?

Circular economy works better when folks arent trying to concentrate all the worlds money to the top of a pyramid, with most consumers making up the base.

Tires cut into straps can be mixed with chopped sea borne trash plastic, placed into a burlap sac the size of a twin bed, heated to about 410 °f then pressed and rolled into a fence post. Can be painted.

It's more a reminder oil is a finite resource

The bad news is : its chemical characterization encompassing 42 hazardous compounds, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), phthalates, adipates, antioxidants and vulcanization agents in a wide range of crumb rubber from different surfaces.

It's more physical-resource efficient to reuse and recycle things, but not necessarily monetary-resources efficient, so while it's "becoming more common" it won't actually be common to recycle without requirements and investments to do so.

An additive to tire rubber leeches into waterways and kills salmon.

How asphalt is better? It also releases toxins to the soil. Its the same thing in a different form.

Tires are a huge, if not the biggest, contributer to microplastics in our drinking water. The toxins will still leach. We just need fewer tires overall, not recycled harm

Public transport and more bikes like in the nederlands would be a big help 😋

Tires used as fuel sounds dirtier than Coal.

We have to pay a recycling fee per tire, so that would be another issue they haven't fixed

Alternative ways to recycle tyres. So many options with a little creativity.
What other garbage pile items can be this useful.

Wow, if we made all our roads out of tires, then cars could just all run on rims, friggin brilliant

when used for playgrounds old tires continue to leach toxic chemicals, into your children as well as the ground

I thought it would be a no-brainer to recycle tires.

Sand and tires can also become insulated homes.

Tires produce ~10% of microplastics... Is it a good idea to dump them as ground revêtement ?
