I dislike the idea of going to a cloud gaming only system, having a physical copy of the game and the hardware to play it means that any server outage won’t deny you access to your library of games. And who’s to say that they won’t charge a fee for access to the servers on top of charging exorbitant prices. It’ll basically be renting your games instead of buying them. It’s great to use but should not be relied on

That would suck. Eventually, most games would not be playable. Like, do you think an unpopular game would be available to play 20 years after it comes out? Very anti consumer

Hardware going away is a collector’s nightmare

A disc and a console and offline gaming represent ownership. Online gaming is rooted in a consumer dependency, which equals 'subscriptions' which amounts to endless revenue and the whole time you never own anything.

The problem is internet IS NOT CONSISTENT for everyone it’s basically determined by your location meanwhile hardware isn’t…….. until everybody in the world gets fiber optic internet cloud gaming being better than normal gaming is a pipedream……

Hardware going away is an ownership nightmare. There needs to be major consumer laws passed to protect game ownership before cloud gaming goes forward

Except in games where latency matters with inputs and reacting to elements on the screen, cloud gaming has a problem. Having the hardware present like a PC or console eliminates this issue. At higher end play, the latency would be detrimental.

I hate this idea for the sole reason that if the internet goes down (which has been happening more and more lately), I’m stuck not being able to play my games. Even with that BS PSN outage that happened, I was thankfully able to play my single player games.

Xbox tried to go all digital in 2013 and everyone moaned. It was the pathway to a fully digital console in the future.

It’s important to point out that Amazon has their own game streaming service on Firestick called Luna. If there was significant demand for game streaming I doubt they agree to allow Xbox access.

Technology is great but game streaming requires very expensive physical infrastructure that nobody wants to foot the bill for. It’s possible that we have a post console world but the limitations are economic not technological

The only problem with everything going to Cloud Gaming is when Internet isn't so great. It'll work in cities, but it's not going to be as great once you get about 30 miles out of a city.

Latency affecting input delay for fast twitch competitive games, and shitty bandwidth for most of the country and world is still a giant hurdle. One of the ways to help with latency would be servers closer the customers worldwide, but that's such a massive and expensive infrastructure to put in place.

People forget you get out of the city and into a rural area you can't get crap for speed. There is also the fact that Internet speeds are throttled. Some people will have a significant decrease in their gaming experience. For instance lag on Amazon gaming is terrible for me.

possibly when the equivalent of a mini pc can be a firestick size or ARM chips potentially. Hdmi has the ability. The internet companies are still taking too long to get it set up . Many more millions poured into and paying monthly for service that deteriorates and the rollout of fibre is crawling along.
