I was fortunate enough to have been born in the Stephen Cottage Hospital in Dufftown in 1956. My father (Cardhu) grandfather (The Glenlivet) and great great grandfather (Dewar's), all worked in the Speyside malt whisky industry, you could say that whisky flows through my bloodstream.

Rick,

a very nice introduction to the Speyside, well done. When you were discussing the recycled bourbon casks, you might have added that thanks to lobbying by the American Coopers Union after the end of prohibition, only whiskey produced in Bourbon County USA using new oak casks can be called Bourbon Whiskey. This means that a huge quantity of once used American oak casks become available every year, after the Bourbon is bottled, and many of those casks are shipped to Scotland (either in one piece, or disassembled in order to reduce shipping space) for use for aging Scotch Whisky. and a few even make it down under for aging spirits as well as wine!
