6 months later owning a Axon 40 Ultra myself I couldn't be more happy with it.

I was between the Axon and the S22 Ultra, but as I live in Spain I didn't want to get the Exynos version so I pulled the trigger on the ZTE.
First month was not as smooth as I desired, software was not on point with a couple of real annoying bugs, but with the first major update everything goes perfectly.
A plus is Nova Launcher works perfectly fine in this device, gestures included
Special mention to the cameras configuration with same sensor in the 3 of them, and a "zoom in" 35mm that you need to get used to it but once you do you can't get back.
Battery life is awesome, toe to toe with an iPhone 12 max in real usage

And lastly the superb uninterrupted screen, main reason why I bought it, not having a punch hole in the screen, and virtually no bezels just pais off and makes this phone worth every penny.

I use the Xperia and my immediate reaction to the Axon photos were the colours are so similar. The HDR processing was light too. Great job tuning the camera!

Buying expensive smartphones that basically ends up becoming "disposable" after a couple of years is like burning actual cash with the way things are getting more expensive these days - especially since other companies are trying to follow crApple's philosophy of bringing out "disposable tech" every six months to a year with their IPhone iterations (including their "planned obsolescence" ideology). As nice as that phone is, I could never justify getting one beyond the $400 USD price range (flagship or no). The nice thing about mid-range phones nowadays is that even having specs a step down from flagship range is more than adequate for the casual user that just wants the damned thing to work.

I'd say the price for what you get in the phone makes this really quite the device. The "cons" are quite nitpicky (not criticizing your opinions, just not dealbreakers in any way) and the pluses really do make this phone an Ultra level flagship while still pricing the phone at sub "Pro" level pricing.
$800 for 8G 128 is pretty standard, but the only $100 jump in price for the additional 4 gigs of ram and 256 megs of storage is the real surprise. Given that a lot of manufacturers will charge the same or more for only more storage, again, quite surprising.

Overall, this looks like a really compelling device, not doing anything better than the "Ultra" competition, per say, but at the very least, matching what others are doing at a few hundred dollars less than them. Quite compelling, indeed. Of particular note is the fantastic camera quality on offer here, I'd say that the reduction in price comes with no obvious sacrifice in quality to reach that price.
