E-Scooters: Love them or hate them?

A trial scheme that made available 250 electric scooters for rent in Newcastle is proving controversial three months in.

While introduced as a tool to help reduce transport-related carbon emissions and air pollution, some consider them a danger to riders and pedestrians alike.

In principle, scooter use is tightly controlled. They’re hired through an age-restricted app and are installed with geofencing technology that limits their use in low-speed zones, no-ride zones and no-parking zones.

The scooters in Newcastle are hired out by the Singaporean company Neuron.

What I hate is the people who constantly bash them and "pretend" to have seen multiple people running red lights and almost hitting pedestrians, I have used them almost every single week since launch and I have not once seen anyone come close to doing any of that. Sure there are the rare few, but members of the public will do anything in their power to lie about the suitability of them just to frame them as dangerous
