Great stuff. You have to think outside the box. As a machinist apprentice I worked in a busy shop in the auto industry. I was very lucky to train under some fantastic journeymen. Once you are shown the potential and similarities of all the machine tools you are only limited by your imagination. Good stuff.

You made a significant mistake. You cut the slot on the centerline. It should be offset so the cutting edge is on the center line.
