The Most Overrated NBA 2K Game

NBA 2K17 was and still is overrated. It was the start of 2K's drop in quality and care, and the end of 2K's focus on the offline player. Despite an insanely buggy launch, terrible AI, and predatory business practices, it blows my mind that some consider 2K17 to be one of the best NBA 2K titles of all time.

I remember how much criticism 2k17 used to get during its lifecycle.

I think it’s now shown in a more positive light because of nostalgia and 2k18 being so bad.

2K17 was such a, weird game looking back at it. In between what many call the Goat of 2K (NBA 2k16) and the worst 2K ever (2K18). For me it was a decent game like you said, but I feel a lot of nostalgia has blinded some people on how they feel about the game cause for me this was the start of the end of quality 2K NBA games.

The thing that I liked about 2K17 was that it was the first 2K that allowed you expand the league to as many as 36 teams.

One seldom mentioned detail about 2K17 is that it was the last game to offer the rookie difficulty in My Career. For some reason (probably to push people into buying VC) 2K18 axed rookie from My Career altogether

I know this game is overrated, but I honestly still adore it just cause I played a ton of it back when I was a kid and it just came out. I did buy a copy of 2K16 a little while ago I need to give it a try

I still vividly remember everyone hating on this game when it came out and then everyone turned around it blindly liked it because of 2k18. Reminds of a similar situation a certain Star Wars prequel is in🤔

Strictly offline player here—replayed Jordan Challenge in 2K11, and as you allude to, it holds up surprisingly well to this day. My “daily driver” 2K is 2K16. To my eye, it’s better looking on PC than all subsequent PC versions. Thank you for this great look at where 2K really started dropped the ball.

I think 2k20 is up here too. I remember it being the worst game at launch at it being so broken and just garbage. However, people had to play it during quarentine and they link 2k20 to only that time and think it was a good game. It was just the memories. The game was awful
