That halftone texture adds a lot of personality to the piece

Separating the line weight at a different step from the basic inking is actually kinda genius, I never thought I could just do that and not try to stress over attempting both at once.

I watch a lot of anime from the 90s and read a lot of manga from the 90s, and this certainly misses the mark in replicating the style of popular manga from that era. Good drawing for sure, but not a replication of the style. If you want to replicate the style of coloured manga illustrations, try replicating the look of watercolour, coloured ink or alcohol markers. If you want to replicate ordinary manga illustrations, do it purely in monochrome and instead of a half-tone, use dot brushes of varying densities to create the screen tone effect many used and still use

I don’t think manga ever used hatching for half-tones. It was always Ben-Day dots

Transforming a multiply layer into halftone texture exploded my head. So obvious!

This is more like 70s/80s art style from Japan. Who else agrees?

Is it fair to say part of the point/benefit of this process is that you're kind of drawing the same thing like three times?
