Bats are amazing as they are capable of spreading coronavirus and other infectious diseases but manage to not get sick themselves. They are perfectly designed to spread coronavirus and infectious diseases with some very unique features among all mammals.

This week we look at bats and coronavirus, stemming from an article written by the Wuhan Institute of Virology back in March 2019, that essentially predicts a future outbreak of coronavirus in China, because of bats. Wuhan is the current epicentre of the most recent 2019 novel coronavirus outbreak. Scientists are now on a critical mission to better understand bats ability to spread coronavirus before things escalate and hopefully use this to protect humans.

There are lots of bats in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, I often see them when I go for a walk in the evening. But they keep to themselves. Not sure how they would ever come into close contact with humans, unless people capture them. Are bat droppings an issue?
