I love that even though Shingo is a straight up bastard, him finally wrecking is what gives him humility. Its a case of a bully not really understanding his bullying till its done to him.

Takumi has really good friends. They immediately decided to help Shingo, despite the fact he is the jerk who almost killed Takumi and Itsuki. Yet, when Takumi stopped in the middle of Akagi with blown engine and wrecked heart, NOBODY rushed to help him. Viewers, Takahashi brothers, Emperor team - all of them left poor guy along. If not for his father, he would've sit in his dead 86 till the dawn. Considering that Bunta found out about the race when it already started, had to spend some time to get a tow truck during late evening, and finally get to Akagi - I can imagine it could easily take him couple hours.

Honestly, I cried when Shingo, despite finishing the first stage a good while ago I still come back to this race, or any other race from this stage, "running in the 90's" is just such a cool song and hearing it while watching the races just hits different
