The Lexus NX has entered its second-generation, and after a somewhat disappointing first effort, the Japanese luxury SUV is now a formidable entrant in the midsize crossover market.

With revised powertrains, a better built body, more space inside, better technology, improved safety gear and a focus on driving comfort and engagement, the new 2022 Lexus NX is finally a proper alternative to the likes of the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes GLC and Genesis GV70.

Are there any downsides? Well, at the Australia launch of the second-gen Lexus NX 2022 range, Byron Mathioudakis picked up on a few things that might be better. But only a few. In the case of the first-gen NX, that list was very long.

The road noise intrusion is probably due to the run flat tyres, they're really bad! Put a pair of Michellin Cross Climates on that bad boy and it'll be so much quieter I imagine. The last gen NX had the same issue, the cross climates transform the ride of the previous gen NX.

In my opinion you and the camera don't really get along that naturally.

I’m sure this man is a lovely person and a very good journalist - but this is video. Did you ‘screen test’ him? Im sorry but this video was very boring. Great cadence and tone to put an anxious person to sleep. Might chuck it on next time I’m having a panic attack.

Thank you Byron for the great review! Would you recommend the 2WD or AWD version of the NX 350h F-Sport model? The car will be mainly (>95% of the time) driven in the Melbourne metropolitan area, occasionally on the Great Ocean Road, and possibly to the skiing resorts in Victoria and the Snowy Mountains in NSW, Many thanks!

Regarding the interior space, I haven't sat in the NX yet, but I have read on social networks that the space is lacking for really tall people in the front seats. Me being 195cm (6'5'') tall, I'm interested in whether it's true, do you have a really tall person that have tried the seating in the new NX?

I think the roof is too low. I like SUV's to be tall to give a better view and greater ease when entering and exiting.

I’m thinking of getting the NX 250 over the NX 350h. Seems that the higher cost of the 350h doesn’t justify the better MPG.

I just had my IS350 in for a service and they gave me an NX 250 as the loaner. I didn't like it at all. Loud road noise, gutless performance and the engine/exhaust sound is really poor. I thought I was in a diesel it made so much racket. The fit and finish is what you'd expect from Lexus but avoid the 250 if you have anything resembling an interest in cars.
