HUGE downside- campaign ads 24/7. all year long.

this is a very bad idea in practice, but on paper (or a minecraft server) it sound very very fun

Okay, but 1 condition, campaign ads are completely illegal and the news must spend no more than 20 minutes per 24hrs talking about the president and potential candidates

I feel like that would lead to too much exchange of power, so nothing would get done. Instead they should have a default week of safety once they become number one. After that week the game’s back on.

Imagine switching president daily and all they do is sign executive orders and revoke orders from the previous guy

love how this starts with “bad idea” and folks either think it says “good idea” and start going off, or acknowledge it and make it their problem anyway.

Canada kinda has this but it requires the people to tell the opposing party to do a no-confidence vote and then an election is triggered regardless of if it's election time

A couple parameters to make this idea less chaotic: a threshold of maybe like 3% so 1% or less doesn't cause flopping back and forth constantly, and everyone's individual vote has a cool down time of 6 months or so

Terrible idea politicians would be even more focused on doing popular policies than the policies that are necessary for example tax increases are sometimes necessary but would always cause the person who enacts them to be voted out off office

On the one hand it would hold standing presidents accountable. One the other hand it would make it stupidly difficult to get into the presidential seat even if it’s vacant.

Another huge downside I see is that a sufficiently large enough group of voters could hold an entire country hostage by changing their vote twice a day, making sure absolutely nothing ever gets done.

they'll just make sure your options are who they want. which is pretty much what they already do

Hardly a 1:1, but Teddy Roosevelt was in support of implementing votes of no confidence. Id est: recall elections for elected officials.

this would actually force candidates to be good leaders. no more breaking promises once ur in office

This wins the award for the worst idea I’ve ever heard of here hoping it never comes true

This absolutely needs to be simulated in some sort of multiplayer video game

Yeah if a dlc comes out it would have to be a new island. They wouldn’t be able to plop them into the current island, and if they did it would be a nightmare to travel between them for a new cup. Unless to do something like TOTK adding a sky part of the world, or an entirely underground part of the world.

That one animated starship troopers movie (traitor of mars, I think) had this, politician got ousted the second her popularity went low enough.

It could probably work in the age of the internet… if the American government knew how to use the internet.
