The Firewall Dragon Problem A Design Flaw? Solution Discussion

With more and more FTK and Loops coming from using Firewall what are some solutions we possibly see in the future to handle this bad boy.

Design flaw is an understatement, he is the new culprit of about 5 FTKs . All he had to do was be a hard once per turn .

This discussion is really thought provoking. It feels like there's so much in the air with impending ban list and future link support. I always wonder at konami's awareness when releasing cards. Especially one like this that is essentially the face of a new franchise. I imagine the next ban list already targets some of the stronger decks it takes to back these combos. Konami will probably leave the rest to players decking disruption for firewall.

There always will be a FTK combo as long Firewall Dragon does not have a hard 'once per turn' clause. It doesen't matter if specific cards get banned or Firewall Dragon gets limited. Someone is going to find a new combo. Konami turning away from those hard 'once per turn' clauses seems to me like a mistake. Just take a look at some powerful new field spells and now we're talking about limiting cards like Terraforming. We also saw the same problems with Elder Entity Norden. An "Emergency Errata" for Firewall Dragon would be the best soulution, in my opinion; but I guess they will just ban cards like Cannon Soldier and his friends :D Greetings from Germany

Well, Firewall Dragon does state "Once while face-up on the field" so it's not like you can Book of Moon and then Book of Taiyou it to bounce another four cards since Link Monsters can't be flipped face-down. It's the equivalent of what used to be "This effect can only be used once while this card is face-up on the field" prior to Battles of Legend: Light's Revenge and Code of the Duelist's PSCT changes.

Most OTK-spams need multiples of FWD, just limit him and it should be bearable. I also think that Maxx C would be better at 3 just to punish such massive boards and overextending, just from a competetive perspective.

As an infernity player that the option that would make everyone happy would be to errata it to make the second effect activate only once per firewall dragon

The four monster cost of Firewall doesn't equate to four cards.

An End Phase Scapegoat flip can make a Firewall.

Gofu spits two tokens giving you three of the four materials needed.

It isn't hard for one card to make multiple pieces. The whole argument that Link 4 is a high cost is not a very convincing one.

The 4 card investment means that disrupting firewall leaves your oppenent with no resources.

Konami knows what they're doing with Firewall. Konami will limit or outright ban said degenerate cards that Firewall is helping. It's actually a smart idea when you think about it.

It's pretty safe to say hitting it to 1 would deem this card "real bad" in the meta/competitive scene. If were going with the Firewall tech theme, then get ready v2, v3, v4, and so on, I'm talking antivirus on crack!! This might mean better ways to make secure boards (more loops) hence the name. In any case if were on edge with this, get ready for the Quasar version of Firewall lol.

To be honest Tombox, I would say that Konami should errata it’s summoning to only 2 Cyverse monsters to use to summon it. If not then limit its special summoning effect towards once per turn. Either one of these two choices because I play a deck called Ritual Spirits of the Wind and I mostly use transcode talker and proxy dragon to summon Firewall Dragon in my deck. I feel that by limiting the special summon effect and it’s summoning to only Cyverse that will make players have to redecide they’re burn strategies and hand loops to become a better duelist with that combo again. Because, I honestly think 💭 this is Konami’s way to pull Firewall back to give them time to make a errata or reprint decision. Even thou the Talker family is Yusaku’s main protagonists cards and Firewall Dragon is his bonus play card. Because, anime wise he rarely has been playing Firewall Dragon but more of the Talker’s and Cyverse Clock Dragon. So I think 🤔 Konami’s going to errata the summoning conditions and/or the special summoning effect that’s all they have to do for the start of the New Year.

Almost 10 months later, Firewall at one, there are several decks that pretty easily summon it and then proceed to FTK. This is after a banlist that hit several FTKs pretty hard. At least the FTKs aren't as big in the meta this time.

Needs a reprint in a star pack or in any other cheap way with the hard once per turn OR it will become the first link monster on the banlist but I doubt that since it's a main character monster.

We just need some good link counter card's.... effect veiler is still useful, but the banned list does have cards that can out firewall dragon . It's a good time to take them off

Making the first effect once per turn would be a buff, considering its a once while on the field type of effect, so i would make it a once per duel thing and the second one a hard once per turn, or at least change the condition from "when a monster is destroyed by battle OR sent to the GY" to "when a monster is destroyed by battle AND sent to the GY" that way the effect wont go off everytime you use something it points to as a material, making it a lot less abusable. And on the subject of it being Yusaku's signature card, as of right now, episode 16, Yusaku only summoned it once, so they could, in theory make him a new signature card and have Firewall Dragon as just another card he pulled from the data storm and nothing special
