Horizontal Tangent Line with Basic Differentiation Rules Problem 1 (Calculus 1)

This is the first of several problems on finding points on a curve where the tangent line is horizontal. This is an important problem that leads to other ideas later in calculus 1 so we take our time with solving this. We go through the ideas needed to set this up, reviewing how to find the slope of a tangent line and the slope of a horizontal line. Putting these together we see that we want to solve for all values of x where the derivative equals 0! We use a combination of basic differentiation rules and review topics from algebra as we go. At the end, we visualize the graph so that you can really understand what you're calculating. More problems are linked below.
