So yeah, you literally just admitted that there's NO counterplay for garen. His Q silences you and chunks you for 90% of your HP, he has insane base armor and MR stats, his W makes him EVEN TANKIER AND IMMUNE TO CC, his E lets him disengage trades, and Ult straight up kills you at half health. On top of this, he has his passive which literally makes him unkillable unless you're a ranged champ because he'll just heal back up any damage you do to him. All the while, he can get ridiculous levels of HP while still maintaining zed levels of burst on his Q which lets him run down anyone. Very balanced champion

Very outdated, but to anyone deciding to pop in this year... Garen is what I call a "stat block" champion. Like with a lot of old champions. Unlike our new overloaded 200 years champions, he has very little going for him, so Riot just pumped up his numbers.
Meaning if you can basically counter his strengths (example, tank shred, which in recent seasons due to new items is much more possible) you counter him entirely. If you fail to do so, he will be a massive problem. Stat block champions are all or nothing. Either he 1v5s or does absolutely jack shit all game. Keep the pressure, might want to forego roaming just to make sure he doesn't get any farm while you're away, and you should be fine.

As a main garen the tip that goes: "poke him to reset his passive" is a pretty bad tip unless your a range champion because that is exactly what someone with experience with the champion wants, garen can take quick trades very well he will easily out trade you. My advice is to pick a champion with good all ins, pre lvl 9 it doesn't matter if you dont fully kill him a good all in that leaves him 1/3 of his HP will force him to lay back, the passive is good but not THAT good recovering 2/3 of garens hp in early levels will take a long time so dont get crazy with the constant poke is not that important. After lvl 9 the sustain from his passive is quite strong you'll have to poke him and reset it if you want to kill him, that until lvl 11 were you can pretty much forget about solo killing him his passive just goes ape shit.

Rarely happens but draven can be a nightmare for him too. Used to main garen and got destroyed by a draven going top. Ranged generally is a bitch for garen if you know how to kite him

I can't believe we're at the point we need a video on how to counterplay Garen... when I started playing league Garen basically countered himself and picking him in ranked was basically considered trolling...

Just play Darius or teemo. The bleed is counter to his passive. Same with teemo but more “toxic” pun not intended :^)
