I won't lie to you, for me it seems that those swings simply won't cut anything. HOWEVER, it is a really clever thing to use the strings in order to prevent the kama from falling off or to use the swings to scare an opponent.

are you sure that kamas have their origins from farming tools? I have learned and researched that the most Kobudo- Weapons have a various origin from southeast Asia, China directly for the use of combat..for instance the sai would have been used by chinese policeman in the Fujian and Guangdong province for capturing people...maybe the eku (Oar) is simply a tool from fisherman?
