As a fan, we all saw Sarah J. Maas coming. 😆 I enjoy her books, some of my favorites actually, but we can all agree there are valid criticisms there.

I love SJM’s books and her ability to make us feel things really intensely. As you said, one either really loves them or really hates them, but no one would say they’re just “meh”, which to me proves that her stories are powerful enough to make anyone feel something... does it makes sense? 😂

I completely agree with you about Sarah J. Maas. Yes there are some problems to her writing but that doesn't make me love her books less. I am an absolute diehard Rhysand fan and just the simple fact that Sarah J. Maas created him makes me a diehard fan of her too.

Loved this video! As an avid (Regency) romance reader, I’m stoked to see other readers enjoy what they enjoy without shame. Romance is THE most popular literary genre, but it’s so often dismissed as silly or low-brow that readers feel embarrassed giving it the public attention and respect it deserves 🕯

I completely agree with you! Sometimes I feel guilty for liking certain books and authors... but they're just so fun and enjoyable 😆

Just like wars and violence can be the centre of the story and not the fantastical elements, romance can play that role too. And it shouldn't be looked down at as basic or fluffy. Romance driven fantasy is a subgenre at this point and it has its big audience just like any other fantasy subgenre. As you mentioned that "yearning and anticipation" and build up to the relationship isn't easy to write. At least I don't think so. Many high fantasy "not very basic" stories have failed, in my opinion, to accomplish that. Idk I mean I'm not a big fan of Sarah j.mass, but I still feel bad when the fans of her series and other ya serieses feel apologetic about loving these types of stories. Also I might give Crescent City a try, it sounds interesting

I love this video! Because just because it’s “basic” doesn’t mean you cannot enjoy it anyways. Slapping book elitism in the face XD Also it’s good that you know they aren’t perfect but you want to have a good time! I would definitely say my guilty pleasure is Gossip Girl-like books so I should definitely read Anna K

Jude is fully mortal! You said she's half-fae, but her sister Vivi is the only one that's actually related to Madoc. I just finished this series so my memory is sharp.

So I was over shadowhunters at the end of freshman year but then I decided to reread all the books during quarantine for giggles. But now I’m a die hard fan again. Chain of gold was amazing

I love me an angsty well written fantasy romance. Gets me out of a reading slump every single time haha
