During World War I, Scottish soldier Private Plumpick is sent on a mission to a village in the French countryside to disarm a bomb set by the retreating German army. Plumpick encounters a strange town occupied by the former residents of the local psychiatric hospital who escaped after the villagers deserted. Assuming roles like Bishop, Duke, barber, and circus ringmaster, they warmly accept the visitor as their King of Hearts. This movie is brilliant and it is not just anti-war classic, but in some sense also spiritual classic. It turns out that mad people in the asylum are more "normal" than serious warring factions outside. Trailer is fantastically restored and I would love to see this movie in 2k.

Stupid review at the end of the trailer, which overall was excellent: “a hippie classic…” Being a hippie means one is a silly pacifist? Or being a pacifist means one is a silly hippie?!?
