OK, I have to tell at least this one story about the MDH 100, as it sort of epitomizes what this video is all about. Way back in 2018 when I did this race with 4 other friends, we showed up at the start without any real idea(s) of just what we had gotten ourselves into (we’re all from Michigan). We get to the start location and as we’re unloading our bikes, I strike up a conversation with a guy that pulled in and parked near us. I asked him if he had ever down the race before, and all he said was that he had. So, I tell him that we’re five crazy dudes from Michigan who have never ridden, let alone raced, our bikes in this sort of terrain, and asked if he had any advice for us. He probably spent the next ten minutes or so (as we all unloaded our stuff and got ready to race) providing me with all sorts of really good information. Stuff about climbs. Stuff about descents. Stuff about the gates. Plenty of great info about the third quarter of the race, as well as the first long climb near the start. All-in-all, the info he gave me would be instrumental is us eventually reaching the finish line (our only goal for the race). Finally, as we ride over to get in line for the start, I notice his race number…yeah…it’s number one…none other than Kelly Magelky. To be honest, I had no idea who he was, and he never once acted like I should have known who he was or that he was a previous winner of the race. I just love the fact that instead of “bragging” and blowing me off, he spent most of his prep time talking to me, just some total stranger dude from the middle of Michigan who had simply asked him for some advice. I never did get a chance to say thanks…so I’ll do it now: “Thanks, Kelly, for all the great advice you gave me before the start of the race in 2018”!!

Excellent video. I appreciated the equal focus on the friendship, race, and logistics. Well done!

It's like they took the nicest, best people on the planet and made an awesome bike adventure film about them.

What a work of art, I truly enjoyed this, one of the best videos I've seen. From the people, music at right times, interviews, camera and drone work, really genuine folks, beautifully rugged scenery, great work! I would like to ride maybe 20-30 miles of this great area someday. As a solo rider, this reminds me of the benefit of a buddy.

Absolutely loved this film! The loyalty and support Thomas and Gordon give each other far surpasses the breaking of a record. Refreshing to see real life where goals are not always attained simply because it’s being filmed. Showed the huge amount of teamwork this type of challenge takes. Thanks!

I did this race way back in 2018 with a group of friends. We all agreed to stay together and ride as a group, and we had an absolute blast. Don't be fooled though, it was also one of the hardest races I've ever done. They aren't kidding when they tell you that the 3rd section of the race will be brutal. When we were discussing the race weeks in advance, and saw how close together some of the check stations were, we sort of laughed. Seriously (we thought)...check stations 3 and 4 miles apart? Holy crap...we needed everyone of them!! Nonetheless, when I talk to other riders/racers about places they may want to go and races they may want to try, I always tell them that Maah Daah Hey should definitely be on their bucket list (along with The Rift (Iceland) and Marji Gesick (U.P. of Michigan)), it is a race that you definitely need to experience for yourself.
